Hey! I posted here last month at the end of my rope with a weed filled, lumpy, bare spotted, matted lawn. With the help of alot of you folks, I pretty much saved alot of time and money on not having to do a coplete overhaul! For that, and the advise I was given, thank you all. My lawn still has some weeds but they have been controlled by good ol weed begone and anytime I see the evil yellow flower I spray it, and it's dead within a few hours. I over seeded twice and have little baby grass coming up all over the place. I actually feel much better that it is filling in very nicely! I still have the lumps and dips which I will take care of in the fall but for now, I am proud of my little lawn! I have read quite a few threads about the steering clear of the tine aeration technique. I have a Mantis with the aeration attachment and it did fairly well! Ever since I aerated, then overseeded, the baby grass seems to be coming up in rows but over time, it continues to fill in properly. I will try the core aerator in the fall but I am fairly please with the results from the tines. My next mission will be to regrade my lawn and make it nice and level for next year, but like I said, I am so far very happy with the results of my treatments thus far. One question I still have. When is it best to fertilize the seedlings? And what is the best type of fertilizer that is pet friendly? I read somewhere that liquid lime is best if one didn't fertilize good enough in the fall. What are some of your thoughts on that? Again, thank you all for your help last month and HAPPY SPRING!!! May your lawns and gardens thrive with excellence!!

That looks like Skunk damage. Happened to me last fall, seems like you had/have a good amount of grubs. You might not be able to see grubs just yet as they're still hidden deep under for protection from the cold, the best thing you can do is wait until mid June to beginning of July to apply GrubEx from Scotts which is a grub preventer, or you can try a killer from Bayer which uses a chemical I believe was called "Sevin". Or you can do research on a long term prevention called "Milky Spore" but first check to see if they're grubs, skunks btw are nocturnal and only come out at night. If there food source is gone (grubs) chances are the skunk won't return anymore

By turning off I take it you didn't winterize. Its likely that you have busted pipes in some of your zones. FYI - I can't imagine that you would get a clog to where you wouldn't get water out of your entire sprinkler or even group of sprinklers (unless the system was open up during maintanence and someone left a rag). I don't have any details on your system but the main lines are usually 1" diameter and lateral line are usually 3/4". Check out a site called irrigationturorial.com for all the info you need to know on sprinklers systems. If you don't have a basic understanding of sprinkler systems takeing the time to learn the basics might come in handy right now. If you get debris in the system its more likely that it would prevent a sprinkler from spraying right, not totally clogging it. Just something to keep in mind when troubleshooting your system. It sounds like for the control valve on zone 4 that you got a bad valve or wired it incorrectly or have a cut in the wire somewhere. You mentioned someone cut a pipe, was the system properly blown out after the repair? If defintely sounds like you either got debris or a busted line. On 5 and 6 can you hear water flowing through the pipe when you manually turn the valve on? Seems like you should be able to. My guess is that you have busted lines in these zones. I would think you would be able to find the leaks by running the zone and looking to see where the ground gets soggy. Good luck...

I am in the Bellingham area which is the NW corner of the state. We have been an inch or two below normal for rain fall this year. Starting in June we get into the dry season.
