Newbie canner needs tips / tricks!
Comments (19)sure will be glad to see the results of your day! I find it efficient to do one thing one day, and then another thing the next time. Otherwise, you're working twice as hard for half the product. I'm a believer in the crockpot apple butter after this year. I mentioned in an earlier post the recipe for dumping everything in, let it stand, cook for a few hours, then run through the blender. EXTRA easy! Couldn't be less trouble. I hear lots of people talk about no-seals, and my DIL (who cans a LOT) always has one or two in a batch. It's been 2 or 3 years since I've had a no-seal, and I think my routine has a lot to do with it. You won't find it in any book, but it isn't contradictory by any means, and it certainly works. after I fill the jars, I run a clean, wet finger around the sealing rim until it "sings". Amazing what that finger will find - bits of food, a grain of salt, a hairline crack - that a clean cloth simply will not. It also "snags" on residue of rubber from the last sealing ring, and will not sing until you scrape it off - the most common thing I find. Then I place the dome lid on the jar, drop the ring over it, and, holding the dome lid in place with one finger so it doesn't move around on the sealing surface, screw the ring down. Worth a try....See MoreApplying floor finish - your tips and tricks (lighting?)
Comments (18)Greg, yes my job (new kitchen area, DR, Study) is a re-coat. He lightly abraded the surface with fine grit sandpaper on a machine that also vacuums, then applied the new Bona Traffic HD coat. khallock, I don't have an answer to your pro question but one who hurries the job either from lack of planning for the surface area or to get on and out of the house is not a Pro. Bona has the very precise instructions to floor specialists for how to refinish floors with their products. Bona recommends 2 coats of Bona Traffic HD, as I called Bona technical this morning to confirm, and that is what was written in this project's contract. Indeed, a "holiday" or missed spot was found in the kitchen when we finally walked in stocking feet on the floors again 2 days after first finish was applied. This "holiday" could have been caught had the second coat been applied. This now has caused more angst. Bona says since more than 48 hours has transpired since the first Bona finish coat, it must be lightly sanded again to allow adhering of the second finish coat. khallack, you might want to talk with prior customers, i don't know, but twice burned makes a pit in one's stomach. This will be remedied but it takes the wind out of one's sails. And I'm tired of being yelled at by floor refinishers who are well paid. As if it's my responsibility to tell them how to do their job....See MoreCurly girl tips & tricks?
Comments (57)D_gw, I look awful with straightened hair too because it seems to take all the volume away and the top gets as flat as a pancake. Even though it is straigthened you still have to pull it straight when drying and frizz still happens with regular straightening. I haven't tried the Keratin but my stylist who has trained to do it said it isn't low maintenance. You still have to spend the time pulling it straight. If the Keratin left the curl and just added moisture and shine I would be on board for it. Star, I'm glad the Keratin worked for you. Fighting curly hair IS NOT fun! You say it's easy to style and wash and go. What do you do to style it? Do you blow dry it with a round brush? I am so glad that you posted about this because there are so many people who don't want to embrace the curls and this sounds like a great alternative!...See MoreHow do I make my kitchen look less meh?
Comments (44)I think your kitchen is very nice, I don’t think the backsplash clashes with the cabinetry and I’m often critical of that in a lot of kitchen photos I see. You know what your kitchen reminds me of? Those rooms where a lot of different shades of whites, creams, and ivories are used... they don’t really match, but they all just go together nicely... and the thing (I think) that ties them all together is a lot of use of texture. So, for that, I like the chairs you have that are woven, as opposed to the smooth, white chairs. And I don’t think you need that tablecloth, I think the table looks just fine without it. I’d add some natural sea grass like colors and textures and some houseplants, maybe some wood cutting boards against the backsplash... any other colors I would gravitate towards would be soft blues and greens, nothing too intense....See MoreShannon_WI
