Comments (39)Yes, the Pink Lady does need some work, especially kitchen and bathroom updates. Personally, I'm not a fan of claw foot tubs (or tubs in general, although I do understand that the claw foot tub is authentic to the period), so I'd be replacing that with a beautiful granite or marble large shower unit. Considering, it's 130 years old, the rest of it seems to be in pretty good shape. Part of it's charm is that it shows the wear and tear of families living in it all this time. It also has some amazing details both inside and out which I'd definitely preserve if it was mine. I think part of what makes the house seem rough is that part of it appears to be empty and unfinished. From the photos that appears to be a separate living unit (perhaps servants quarters or a carriage house at one time?) that has been neglected. That area also needs repairs, remodeling and updating. The house also has an interesting history. The gigantic, gray Victorian that can be seen from the window in some photos is The Carson Mansion. It was owned by William Carson, one of the first lumber barons of Northern California and is one of the most widely photographed and written about Victorians in California and perhaps the United States. The link below is to a Wikepedia article: Carson Mansion Anyway, back to the Pink Lady. William Carson had the Pink Lady built for his son (although some sources say the house was a gift to his daughter) as a wedding gift. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is now a vacation rental that is listed on Airbnb and VRBO. For some reason, I find that rather sad - I like to picture a family who loves the house living in it and filling it with life and laughter. While the house is not my style; I prefer clean lines and something less elaborate, I have a great appreciation for the craftsmanship and details of the house. What i wouldn't mind having is one of those corner turrets scaled down a bit; that could make for a nice bit of personal space such as a reading room or just a place to sit and reflect on things. My apologies for the hijack - back to 'P' photos!...See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Su 1/16/22
Comments (19)Nicole - We have a small yard so we're always looking for plants with 4 season interest. Our local nursery recommended this one and it was just about done blooming when we purchased it. We placed it by the front door and it has a wonderful aroma. In Bloom: https://portlandnursery.com/shrubs/edgeworthia Katlan - that was the best team ever and my Dad's favorite too. I have his Original Terrible Towel and mug and could probably still name half the roster....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Su 10/16/22
Comments (19)Pitaya (dragon fruit) flower that I attempted to pollinate in my back yard a few days ago. Photo taken at 9 PM, the flower only opens at night, and there is a small window of time to pollinate - by morning, it is too late. I love dragon fruit, which is why I grow it. I had a lot of pitaya juice when I was in Brazil - it is very popular there....See Moremaire_cate
