Comments (2)I think the tomatoes and peppers you could put in pots to move. I don't know if the taters and melons would move well or not. go ahead and try to move them and the asparagus. At least you won't have to think about what the landlord would be doing to it! I never tried to move anything. I did take my basil out of the ground and put it in apot because it was too wet. It survived....See MoreWe're in the home stretch!!!
Comments (45)Well, at least the narcissus and snowdrops are poking up through the frozen soil along my south foundation. Winter has lost its grip even though we'll still need a jacket and perhaps a muffler/scarf when going walkabout the gardens for a few more weeks. The granite garden bench I had set in the south garden bed is visible after more than two months of deep snow kept it from sight. I can finally walk the length of my path along the back of the garage to the gentle slope at the north boundary. It's dappled sun in that area so I've planted daphne, daylily, astilbe, hydrangea, bottle gentian, foxglove, weigela, turtlehead, and several hostas. The coreopsis does fine but the tall phlox will need to be moved this year to somewhere it gets more sun. Even with so many chores on the list, it's good to be thinking about the gardening season ahead rather than shoveling snow or throwing salt over the ice. The danger of a roof collapse is no longer a daily worry. Guess we made it though another one......See MoreThe Home Stretch?
Comments (11)We're in the same place as Creek Side. We are scheduled to close the 26th, but who knows. Our builder thought we done by Christmas last month. The ground is frozen 12 inches deep so we can't landscape and put in sprinklers. If the bank doesn't let us escrow that part, then we may have to wait. The porch decking needs to be done and the outside lights need to go on their special switch the streetlight has to go in. The outdoor sewage hookup part needs to be finished. The inside needs the fireplace to be rocked and carpet. The oak plank floors were distressed and stained this weekend so all we need is the finish. Everything else is basically tweaking. Our builder told us that building would seem slow once we got inside the house and started putting walls up. Our build is actually happening faster than I thought it would. There has been steady progress. Some days we have more than one crew working. Each crew may only be there 30 minutes, but they made visible change. As far as how things look, I was worried in the beginning. We have a builder with a 'good eye'. He has helped us pull colors and looks together. Dh and I are apparently 'risk takers' in that we aren't afraid to build something different than the neighbors. My last big 'Did I get this right?" is the fireplace which is the focal point of the whole house. We'll know this week whether we messed that up or not. I'll let it get put up and then have my crisis. :) Good luck!...See MoreA twist on the white kitchen - not final but in the home stretch!
Comments (90)As my best friend from Savannah used to say, "DIVINE!" Your kitchen is heavenly, such a scrumptious mix of materials and creative elements. You should be a kitchen designer! Your layout looks great, too, and I love how your kitchen opens up to the family room. Your kitchen is one of the most gorgeous ever I've seen, and you're really kind to share photos and sources. Oh, and your two daughters are too cute for words! Congrats on your project, and **please** keep the photos coming!!...See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
