Help choosing the color of a wooden fence - design help!

Hello all the designers out there! I am in the need of painting the fence of my house and I am really struggling between making it a modern greyish or a more natural brownish. The variables are that the house is green and has brick in the front, I am pretty sure it should match those too, the deck is green and we live in MN where most of the time is winter. Meaning that even though a green summery color would be nice now we have to take in account that most of the year the colors to see around are brown or white. So I will post some pictures of the color of the house, the fence which is very big, the deck and the brick. Since it is a 1970 everything i do in the remodel I am trying to update it a little so make it more modern. Grey was my first choice but I am not quite sure how it would work in the long run and in the depressing times of the #polarvortex. Also how much it would match the house. PLEASE HELP!! Thank you so much in advance!!

I’d eliminate the options with the “x” they are too peach, too blue and too dark...
I’ve indicated my 1st and 2nd choices on the marked up screenshot!

I agree, the lighter neutral grey or the brown, the ‘cedar’ colors are way too orange and don’t age well.

IMHO, if you want the house to be more modern eliminate the shutters and paint all the trim white- I don’t love the forest green with the sage siding (I like the sage)

I like arlene's suggestion, only I'd probably paint the caps a color more like the brick in the building. But unless you want to make a statement with color, it's probably better to leave it natural.

walkway is along the garage. We were not planning on planting anything along the fence because there is a tree in the middle. The house is on a private drive and the fence is only exposed during the winter when the leaves are gone.

Beth, thank you! All great suggestions!! We debated between cloud white and alabaster for the cabinets, so I must be on the right track. As far as hardware, yes! We’ve got silver bar pulls chosen, not too different from the photo you shared. Love the kitchen you shared! Very timeless/classic, which is what we’re going for. I think your advice confirms we are doing okay so far... perhaps we will live with the new cabinet color before choosing wall color. Thanks for including ivory lace in your image...that’s what I’m leaning toward for walls right now. 😉

HALLETT & Co. I was definitely thinking of eliminating the shutters and changing the forest green. Which one is your brown? So you say that the darker colors dont age well?

Claire I like your option #1, is called Dessert Sand. At first it was a little peachy but with the days it got nice! What would you think if I do the fence to change the forest green trim with this color? My husband doesn't like white he gets so insisting with that ...

I think you would be better off just letting the fence weather to its natural grayish tone. That's what most people do around here. I think trying to paint it will create unnecessary maintenance hassles, especially if some posts or fence sections need to be replaced in the future.

Well, you certainly don't want to paint it. Just stain it if you want to give it a bit of protection to extend the life of it. But I'd leave it as is.

As far as longevity, in my experience, the weak point on the post is the part below ground level, which eventually rots and the post becomes unstable and has to be replaced. Are you using metal below ground or is it the same wood? Even Cedar is not going to last forever. I know they have come out with a newer design where you can insert the wooden post into a brown metal one for the lower part that goes into the ground. My next door neighbor did that, but that was not available when I had my fence put in many years ago.

Its stain, you use on a fence, not paint, if you want it to last a while. I like, the one that the poster above labeled #2.
