Comments (39)"These early years with your child are by far the easiest years for a parent. There are no equivalent plug covers or cabinet door/drawer locks for a teenager." So true! Parenting is hysterically amusing and heartwrenching and everything in-between. We all have rules & trust & safety widgets & eyes on the backs of our heads & still our kids are skipping just out of reach. I once tackled a 3 year old on a chair leaning over our ancient electric Hotpoint pushing the back buttons. "I make eggs!" she said. Yes, her belly pressed against the burner she was turning on..... Nowadays that independent 3 year old is an independent 16 year old pushing all kinds of buttons I can't even see......but I do trust her with 22K burners on our Blue Star. How the years fly! I don't know what a good stove sitter runs in your neck of the woods but I'd make sure s/he understands there are no cell phone chit-chats, no manicures, and no bathroom breaks while on duty. Same deal as your disposal sitter! Good luck, Jenna, we're all in this together!...See MoreHelp with baby supplies
Comments (22)Wow, what a cute cute guy!! Just adorable!! Congratulations! In addition to the "big" stuff, ask your sister what kinds of food he and she like to have, and stock up. One thing I don't like about traveling with my baby is that, in addition to all the diapers and clothes and other supplies, you always have to bring a cooler with milk and tons of food. Such a hassle. For once I'd love to get to my inlaws and they've already got kid and baby-friendly food ready. Hm... maybe this is just an issue with my inlaws?? ;) At any rate, it would be one less thing she'd have to travel with. It also wouldn't hurt to pick up a baby thermometer and some baby Tylenol or Motrin, in case she forgets to bring hers. Nothing is worse than being away from home and your kiddo gets sick, and you don't have what you need to make him feel better. Enjoy your visit, you sound like a really great aunt already! :)...See MoreHelp! How to babyproof an open stair case
Comments (13)While I know aesthetically it may not look the greatest, is there any way to attach a 1x4 or something to cover the back of each stair horizontally that you could stain and then remove when the kids grow older? Maybe screwed to each side as a riser that may not reach the full distance vertically between one step and another? Just thinking of safety for the next few years if it’s going to be an issue with curious adventurous kids. I know no matter how careful you are , they find a way to scare you. My son climbed up the outside of our banister up the stairs all the way to the second floor railings at two. He was totally fine, and scared me to death! It only takes them seconds to get into something!...See MoreToddler-proof Mini Bar area - insight needed!
Comments (9)How about some miniature saloon doors? you can attach a little latch lock on it or a bolt lock and maybe put it in the back in case your toddler is tricky like mine and can unlatch almost anything. I found a few ideas on pinterest. They aren't incredibly hard to construct yourself...but they can be found on etsy. Here is a saloon style baby gate for a visual and this one is found on etsy. If that doesn't work for you, have you considered relocating the bar? We just just bought a house and turned our kitchen hutch that stored our plates and bowles and such, into a bar....eventualy I'm going to paint it but its really nice. My kids can't open the cabinets at all....See MoreUser
