Comments (7)Dig Doug's Designs - WOW! I love your ideas! Especially adding the birdbath and bird house design. I have canna that I over winter so I can definitely put them into planters. Never thought to place planters on the steps as well. What do you propose to use as the landing material? You have something grey there. Thank you so much for your input and effort. In your 2nd pic - do you have a hibiscus one one side and the spirea on the other?...See More14x14 deck stair placement / stair removal
Comments (1)Not sure if any of these pics and info will help, but i'll give it a shot. Our house is on an incline also. our deck is 24 x 14 (actual deck) and we have stairs to the side. when we step out of the patio door (on the screened in deck), we have a small platform, turn right and step down to the deck. turn left and go down steps. We designed our deck to be lower so as not to obstruct the view of trees when sitting on the porch. You probably should have steps to access the back yard. My neighbor has similar set up and she put the stairs at the end of the deck (not the side). I would make the deck as big as possible, not including the stairs. If you have the stairs at the end of the deck, it does impede your view, whereas having stairs at side, gives a clear view. Hope this all makes sense....See MoreDeck stairs to patio transition and more ideas!
Comments (4)Yardvaark-I do not have a plan or drawing available. I've submitted a few more photos to give you a better idea of the backyard. Here's a view from the other side of the house coming off the driveway and the rest of the photos are what you'd see walking down to the back then facing the house. Hope these in addition to my first pics helps give a better idea. We are mostly concerned about improving the stairs and connecting it with the patio area and just overall how to make that transition look good with those two areas which no longer have trees. The patio doesn't necessarily need to be bigger, but it seems small in comparison to the deck area. For example when we have friends over to eat on the deck and move down to the patio, space seems a little tight, but that could be a furniture/chair issue. Thanks for your thoughts....See MoreDavid Baffaro
