Comments (28)Hi Roxanne, I looked Irma Bryan up.. looks beautiful!!! No.. i don't have this one!!! Here is some info for you.. Not trying to enable!! ;-) Again.. Thanks to DIana!! Her notes.... Irma Bryan #133 aka Irma Bryant, Thai One, Blood Red. Moderate strong red with small pale orange-yellow center; petal wide, elliptical, pointed tip, moderately overlapping, slightly wavy edges, moderate reddish-brown bands on front and back; fair texture, 2 1/2" slight spicy scent becoming stronger on storage; keeping quality fair. Prone to black tip. Similar in growth habit to âÂÂScott Prattâ and the earliest to flower of the red plumerias. Blood Red with velvety veins, petals notched at one corner. Beautiful dark red has a noticeable orange center. Medium tree. Dark red flower with dark orange center dark red veins. Deep red 3âÂÂ, strong veining, and small orange center. Due to the heat, the center does show much of the orange coloring. My other Irma Bryan which gets a little more shade does show the orange center. Medium compact tree. An amazing bloomer, always my first bloom in early spring and always the last in late fall. Recommended for the coast. Not Cold Tolerant. Strong red with small orange-yellow center, elliptical pointed tip, slightly wavy edges, moderate reddish-brown bands on front and back, 2.5" slightly spicy scent. Flower stalk is pubescent. Growth habit is upright and dense. Reddish green leaves are oblanceolate with acuminate tips and red edges. Lei quality over 12 days. A good example of the ruffle on the petal edge. Even Irma Bryan fools a few people because in ideal conditions the deep yellow centre will appear. Look for a dark stripe on the back, and white fuzzies in the throat, most of the time irma shows a burnt orange center. ÷ Irma Bryan #5 A well overlapped reddish orange with dark red veins. Generous inflorescences on a medium size tree. One of several Irma Bryan seedlings. Gorgeous 4-5â plum red blooms with somewhat ruffled petals, overlapping, grainy appearance. Deep reddish coloration on leaves. A very beautiful plant. Sweet frangipani fragrance. Sounds beautiful... Take care, Laura...See MoreSo CA Plumeria Sale Varieties
Comments (40)Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, but on my third year of plumerias. We went to the show last year and this year. Since we are kinda new, we aren't to picky about which one/type yet so we went on Sunday at 2:00, so there was only two hours left of the show. Let me tell you last year there was plenty to pick from, this year, there was almost nothing left! JJ was the only one who had quite a few left. So that being said a couple vendors were offering to make a deal with the couple that they had left. My husband and I each went with $50.00 to spend, of course we brought the checkbook just in case!! Right away my husband struck a pretty good deal with two of the larger plants that were outside on the patio. The seller marked them both down right away for a total of 45.00 for both, one white and yellow, one yellow and white, both with current inflows and both having an inflow about to open! So then it's my turn, we have plenty that are one to two years old, I kinda wanted one larger one and no more white and yellow. I already have three JJ's... but they do seem to be my strongest plants so why not another one, again a lot of small ones, a couple larger ones for $100, but that over my budget.. so I was going to settle for one for $40.00, I don't even remember what is was, and John saw me and said, no don't get that one, take this one, it was a Rio, with an inflow about to bloom, it was marked $55.00, but he marked it down to $40.00. Still white, but has colored edges, he showed me in the catalog. So I was happy. Then I came across the Aztec Gold, I loved the smell, but they only had a little one left, but the vendor automatically took $5.00 off for me. So for going at the last minute we are very happy with our afternoon at the sale. We left at exactly 100 with a good group of plants. The two on the left are the ones my husband got for a total of 45.00, the one in the back is a JJ Divine for my mother in law, she loves mine, the little one in the front is the Aztec Gold, and the one on the right is the JJ Rio!...See Morenew to plumeria
Comments (9)Hi Eric, I too got the plumie bite but I cannot claim that I am a pro either. I bought cuttigns many MANY years ago, and had no luck what so ever. I decided to throw in the towel to rooting cuttigns and decided to buy rooted cuttings. I bought from Stokes tropicals when they were offering plumeria at HUGE savings. I want to say I pais $20 something for a very nice dwarf singapore pink. I highly recommend this plumeria. I will say that it doesn't have the bright awesome colors that I have seen on some of t he others, but it for me was VERY easy to bloom, and had a nice light fragrance, plus, if you have enough light it can be kept growing and blooming all winter. I also am a big fan of the Celadine. The flowers are yellow and white and have a nice stong fragrance. I am not the best at describing scents but this one is heavenly and to me another easy grower. Your going to meet some great people here. I don't post a lot because I really don't know a lot, so I stay behind the scenes and just read as much as I can and try to apply what I have learned to my plumerias and I have to say this was the best year ever for me and my plumie collection! I actually had a close friend convince me to join another plumeria forum. THE ALOHA PLUMERIA GROUP on Yahoo. I was convinced to buy unrooted cuttings which I really didn't want to even try again. This is where I got my Celadine, 2 pudicas, and Intense Rainbow. I only paid around $25.-$30. for these cuttigns and they were really nice large cuttings. I tried the baggy rooting method which never worked out for me. I did everything I was told to do but after a few months, NOTHING!! I was so angry that I wasted this money again on cuttings I was detined to never root. Once I changed my method to the raw egg method, PRESTO!! I had rooted cuttings, and not only that, I had buds on all the cuttings!! My first year with plumeria cuttings and I was enjoying celadine flowers. I couldn't believe it!! Mimi is such a great woman and very generous. She really encouraged me to not stop trying to root my cuttings. I had a heck of a time with my pudica and she told me to not give up and it rooted. Bottom line, both these forums are great and you have the chance to learn from some of the best people on both forums. With this info, you will be well equiped to grow some great plumerias. The #1 lesson I learned, NEVER GIVE UP!! Even if you try rooting the first time and it does not work for you, try TRY again. It took me 3 attempts and then I got it down. I never hada cutting fail on me. I gave up on one of the 2 pudicas but it would have rooted. I got some great cuttings from memebers and they rooted for me using the raw egg method. Good luck and great to have you here!! Andrew...See MoreJungle Jack's Plumerias at Home Depot & Lowes 2015
Comments (158)Congrats on the seed pod! I would go nuts if I saw a seed pod in the store! I went to Home Depot yesterday and used the last of my gift card balance on a 2 gallon Mandalay. I couldn't find any information about this one except on JJ's own website. I decided to take a chance on it because the description states very strong sweet scent. I'm realizing that I prefer plumerias with scent versus pretty flowers without scent. This flower is suppose to be pretty too. The tag photo of Mandalay kind of reminds me of a darker version of Desert Sunrise but with less veining. I also saw a Thai Splash but I had to limit myself to 1 plant. I walked around the store and saw there was another display table with various tropical plants and I saw some plumerias on it. These were 1 gallon size and $15.98 but they were not Jungle Jacks. There were pictures of various flowers on the tag and most of them had a white flower circled. They were infested with spider mites. :( It reminds me of when I went to the Lowes in Vista. They had a great selection of JJs not often available but they were infested with thrips. Now, I always carefully inspect the tips and underside of leaves before I purchase....See Moreily68
