Elkay e-granite VS Blanco Silgranit
Comments (0)The sink decision is getting closer. We went to the showroom and DH liked the composite granite better than stainless. I was going for the brown but he liked black which I am OK with so we have the color. The style we like is in the Elkay e-granite. It is an equal double bowl with a low divide. They only had Elkay, Swanstone and Blango so not sure if there are other options that would have this style. Anyone have any experience with Elkay e-granite? Thanks....See Moresoapstone counters with blanco silgranit or stainless
Comments (11)I'm doing exactly the same thing (soapstone/natural cherry/inset.) I am going for an A&C look so am leaning towards the Shaw. Ceramic farmhouse has the feeling of the sinks of the era. And the non-uniformity of Shaw harkens to the hand-made theme of A&C/Craftsman. That said, I am a little nervous about chips ... but then, we are talking soapstone: I'm expecting a patina. An alternative I'm considering is one of the Kohler (they warrant the heck out of their enamel these days). But (if I'm reading the drawings correctly) these all feel "dishonest" to me: the apron is artifical. It's not the front to the sink. It's added on simply for looks. That kinda bugs me....See MoreFeedback on White Blanco Diamond Silgranit Sink
Comments (9)Mine isn't white, but "biscuit," is that close enough? Our water is naturally hard, so we have a whole house softener. I was originally thinking of one of the darker Silgranit colors, but was told that locals who have dark sinks live to regret it. I have seen what look like stains in the sink, but they turn out to be quite superficial and come off easily. I use Barkeeper's Friend when I see a dark mark and I spray with dilute vinegar once in a while. It's only been a year, but it looks pristine....See MoreSink comparison: Blanco Silgranit II vs. Corian
Comments (7)For heat resistance I think all you need do is check the mfg specifications. Corian is heat-resistant to 325 degrees; it's the integrated sinks where you need to be careful with boiling water because of the glue used (seams are always the weak point in any kitchen counter/sink material). I'm not sure what Silgranit's max temp resistance is. My drop-in 32" Swanstone single-bowl sink is rated for 375 degrees. I never run cold water when I drain pasta, and have had no problems since its 2003 install. The only thing SoftScrub won't get out of Swanstone is rust stains from cans. But oddly, they disappear after a while just from ordinary use (e.g., running water) after a couple of months. Mine is top-mount, but you can undermount it. The deck is pretty thin (compared to our previous Kohler cast iron, LOL) so it would add 1/4" to depth when you're bending over. My DH would agree on a too-deep sink. He finds its 10" depth too deep for him (he's 5'10"). I'm four inches shorter and have no problems with the depth. He'd prefer an 8- or 9-inch sink, that would work better for him. So far they haven't been able to make solid surface sinks longer than 31/32" for a single-bowl, last I heard....See MoreKitty Bozz
