Need Help With ID Of Perennial Plant Please!
Comments (4)It is spurge. I appreciate it every spring because it shows up right outside of the window by our ground telephone line long before it is comfortable to work outside in the garden. This year we were in Severe Drought on August 2 when we left home for three weeks in the Pacific Northwest visiting daughters. I chopped down all the dead and dying stuff in the bed under aforesaid window. When we came home we found that 2+ inches of rain had fallen while we were gone and the lovely bluegreen foliage of the spurge is freshening things up. Won't show blooms and bracts until next spring. Comments (10)I'm going to disagree about this plant being very invasive. It's relative, Lamiastrum galeobdolon or yellow archangel, IS considered invasive and is listed on a number of state's invasive plants listings. However, while I'd consider lamium an aggressive spreader under the right conditions, it is NOT invasive and is quite easily removed from areas where you don't want it. There is always a risk when unilaterally labelling a plant as "invasive". First, true invasiveness relates to a non-native plant's ability to colonize and overtake/overwhelm native species to the detriment of natural ecosystems. The term is not technically used to describe a plant's growth habit in a garden setting. Second, a plant's ability to spread aggressively or to become invasive relies very heavily on location - what has the potential for invasiveness in one area of the country will not necessarily be invasive everywhere else. Climate, hardiness zone and growing locations will play a very large role. Finally, good groundcovers are by definition spreaders - some more aggressive than others - but that is their nature and function. Doesn't make much sense to plant a groundcover that doesn't spread to some significant degree and cover the ground :-) IME in my rather mild and often damp zone 8 climate and in a rich soil, partially shady location, spotted deadnettle (Lamium) is a very attractive and extremely manageable GC with NO invasive tendencies and only a moderately aggressive growing habit. YMMV...See MoreSharing some faves and some ID help please lots of pics!
Comments (7)Post a close up of the Cotyledon orbiculata (I believe) - the leaves look really nice! Edit: I caught a better look in the photo of your ferocactus. I have a very small cutting only and can't wait for it to get bigger....See MorePerennial ID please?
Comments (5)Geranium yes quite sure not macrorrhizum, the tips tend to be more rounded, and it would spread more (and it would smell & there a re tiny hair all over the leaves) the pointy leaves could be -emerging Rozanne some pratense -type ---- for x oxonianum the leaves are too smooth, do they seed around, spread (any chance for a pic, even from afar?)...See Moreperen.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada
