Hi Hosenemesis, i am striving for a spanish modern looking house so maybe the herringbone would work for me after all! Here is a pic of the tile. It is a lot brighter and with light green/grey streaks in real life, but shows up kind of dark with the flash on my camera phone. I would love some suggestions on other tiles to pair it with! thanks!

Vix! I'm sorry I'm such a jerk - I never posted those pics. Right after those messages I started a new job and things have been absolutely crazy around here. This is the first time I've looked at the forums since then. Did you install the tiles yet? I can't take any pictures now because DH has the camera. I've been waiting to post pics because we still haven't put up the window treatment or the mirror that PB sent me with no mounting hardware and has since been on backorder (arrgh - finally got fed up and bought one from RH this AM). Anyway, will try to post pics soon!

Wow! That's a really beautiful shower! Thank you for posting the photo...it looks very elegant! I seem to have a mental block as far as design goes with the larger tile - a bit afraid as I regret a tile decision I made 10 years ago and have lived with it ever since, but I love the look in the photo and just need to figure out the best design. The reason I wanted to switch back to diagonal was to tie it back in with the diagonal on the floor, but that may not be necessary. With the 20" tile on the bottom, should I use 13" or 7" above? My shower won't go all the way to the ceiling - about 7 feet high I believe. Another question: My tile is Emser Coliseum Athens. I can use their matching mini-versaille pattern on the floor and some sort of decorative band up higher, or I can use a darker walnut-colored 2x2 on the floor and run a band of the same 2x2 about eye level. What do you think? Thank you!

I am dealing with tile size and proportion with my small fireplace now. I would strongly suggest mocking both sizes up in person. I predict the answer will be clear to you immediately if you do that. Tile that is too big for a small space can look really weird because only a few tiles cover the whole space. There isn't enough tile repetition for it to look right. You could continue your counter top material up just behind the sink to take care of the window issue. Like this:
