Need help large tile backsplash layout
Comments (10)@Iris Marteja I know your post is old but I have similar concerns with a backsplash I like, and it's an odd shape 16"x47" so it's 2" short of the cabinets but I love the flow of it. I'm worried about the grout lines as well as it is a flowing pattern. What pattern/tile did you use?...See MoreBacksplash trim layout for MCM kitchen - help!
Comments (4)I think in this case a metal Schluter system trim might be best so you don't have rough exposed edges. Unless this particular tile also has matching pencil liner, don't do it. You'll never match the whites. https://www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/...See MoreKitchen backsplash with countertop bay
Comments (6)Hello mezzsop , Let's see if we can answer some of your questions.... It doesn't sound like, 'it's a mess,' is doing it for you, but I'd be lying if I said I was surprised. That's code for, 'I don't want to spend my time doing it.' Your questions actually bundle up to the answer with the least resistance. Let's start at the upper cabinets: You don't want to try to align a cabinet edge that was made in a 'perfect' environment with an edge built on site - they'll never truly align. So pulling them away from the edge would be easier. This also gives you a bit of 'blank space' where you could put a proper tile stop, schluter strip, flat stock to end your tile. You don't want tile just ending with an exposed edge - it leaves yourself open to damage. This would mean your tile ends with the cabinetry above (easy to install) and the difference between the cabinetry / tile to the window becomes something functional. Hope that helped, if you need anything we give a 15 minute analysis of any project for free. Hit us up. -frank...See MoreWhere to end kitchen backsplash on window with bullnose corner?
Comments (9)That IS a little awkward. I'd look for very small molding trim pieces, paintable to match cabinets and sill, to go on that edge from the sill around the corner into the cabinet. Something like a L in profile that could cover the edges. If you have the chance to get it redone, have it end a few inches away from the window (like as far as the stool comes out to the side) and use a Schluter type of edging. At least caulk the edges with paintable caulk and ignore it. The big picture looks good! It'll only bother you when you're at the sink. :)...See MoreGoing Northwest
