possible to have mold under tile floor?
Comments (4)That's not the consequenses of not maintaining grout. That's more like a problem of flooding a time or two. Even with sealer, grout is not meant to be waterproof, or even water resistant. However, whater normally won't get on the floor in any kind of volume to be able to do that. What gets on the floor will absorb into the joints, but them evaporate right back out. You can put a waterproofing membtane down under the tile, but the floor won't really be completely waterproof unless the waterproofing laps up the walls 2-3", and goes UNDER the tub, which 99.9% of the time is highly impractical. But it WILL provide you with some measure of protection. That said, When I built my own home years ago, I never waterproofed the floors, and at the time, I had 4 children, ages newborn to 10 years old, and let me tell you, at bath time, that floor got soaked, and still never got to that point, so either you had repeated flooding, or unnoticed leakage from the toilet....See MoreMold under vinyl floor in Master Bath
Comments (1)Oops, one more thing I forgot. There is a 1/4" underlayment of plywood or luan or some material so maybe the mold is only on that. I guess we need to pull that up and see what is going on under the that first....See MoreMold growing under grout? (pics included)
Comments (3)My house is on a slab, so from what I understand there should be a shower pan under it? Could this be what I'm seeing? It's a garden home and every time something comes up we realize something was not done quite right! I am considering replacing the whole floor... Just looking at my options right now...See MoreMold under LVT floor?
Comments (4)They didnt install with a vapor barrier. The LVT is waterprooof and has a underlayment attached. Install guide said do not install any underlayment (including 6mil poly) From what I read it could void the lifetime warrenty as well. Do you have any insight on my question of if those pictures looks like the beginning of mildew or mold? I'm probably going to spend the $40 and send a sample to the lab, but looking for other's opinions on the visuals I uploaded....See MoreSJ McCarthy
