Comments (5)Hi Katie, Sounds interesting! I'll definitely follow you on your blog... my husband and I live in a small condo in Washington, DC, and the original builders clearly thought the kitchen was the place to economize space. We are debating whether to renovate now - a biggish decision since the kitchen would be open to the rest of our place and so require quite a bit to make it seamless and the modern kitchen we want it to be. Comments (27)Thanks everyone for your kind words - I wish the photos were brighter but oh well I think you get the idea :) I forgot to say how proud I am of hubby as he did all the work himself (well except installing the soapstone we left that up to Florida Josh) including moving the gas stove and gas line, all new electrical, installing the cabinets (solo) new plumbing for the dishwasher, making the kitchen 1 foot larger and therefore building the walls and installing all new drywall, installing the backsplash and building and installing the pantry shelving .......... whew makes me tired just remembering :) It took time but sooooo worth it and even though I have not been posting here much I still check in daily - it's a wonderful helpful forum and again I want to thank everyone for all the advise given here - thanks everyone. Comments (6)Okay, if you're going to dust that soffit, attractive or not, it'd better at least have lights. I really like your house's architecture. It deserves a new kitchen. As for removing the typical homey "before" clutter, truly what doesn't cost a cent is usually a very significant part of the remodel. The "after" kitchens these days are so gorgeous that I've literally never seen one returned to its previous state. People give service to their beauty gladly. :)...See MoreConsidering losing the "eat-in" portion of our kitchen. Thoughts?
Comments (50)We currently have the peninsula design you show and I hate it. It is SO cramped, only 4 ft across from the “arms” (width of sink base), there is limited work space and NO storage. Definitely a one person kitchen, and there are 4 of us who use it. Not totally clear on where your dining room is but ours is behind the stove wall. We are redoing the kitchen, taking the stove wall down to open the kitchen to the dining room and taking the kitchen into the eat in area for more space. We bought the house in May and I have never bought a kitchen table because I was determined to redo it and get a bigger kitchen. I don’t need a kitchen table 6 feet from my dining room table, I would much rather have more kitchen space. I didn’t want to do a huge kitchen remodel when we bought the house, I planned to just take out the peninsula and put in an island, but the kitchen is only 11’ wide so that won’t work. In the end we decided to bite the bullet and just redo it. The expanded kitchen and more open area will give us a much more usable space and also really bump up the resale in our area....See MoreK D
