Backsplash? No backsplash? What kind of backsplash?
Comments (25)didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )...See MoreWhere to end/use backsplash on long kitchen wall
Comments (9)I really love the look when you go around the corner, only to the depth of the upper cabinet. It looks very polished, very nicely finished. The size/scale of the tile matters for this type of look. (If you're using a large format tile, I wouldn't recommend it.) You would then use a bullnose tile or a deco edge to end the tile....See MoreWhere to end counter? Should cabs and backsplash follow suit?
Comments (19)Wow! So many helpful responses. Thank you! kim k, this picture is fantastic - just what I need to help me visualize what I am doing. By going with the 6" cab to the left of the DW, I can have a 3" filler between it and the corner, leaving 1 1/2" between the counter and the slider trim. The upper and lower cabs and the backsplash would then be 2 1/2" from the trim. Not as much as you picture here, but still some breathing room. If it turns out (as my KD is suggesting) that I don't really need a full 3" filler for the corner, then we can adjust on site and gain even a little more room next to the trim. herbflavor wrote: "I would avoid the area between window and door.....keep that area looking good,'" and "a deeper wall cabinet somewhere, with microwave on the bottom ledge of the cabinet is better than the protruding shelf only.......get the most flush look you can." What do you think of me changing the pantry cabinet in far right corner so the top is 18" deep (not 12" as shown) has only one shelf, and then putting a microwave on that shelf?...See MoreWhere to end kitchen backsplash on window with bullnose corner?
Comments (9)That IS a little awkward. I'd look for very small molding trim pieces, paintable to match cabinets and sill, to go on that edge from the sill around the corner into the cabinet. Something like a L in profile that could cover the edges. If you have the chance to get it redone, have it end a few inches away from the window (like as far as the stool comes out to the side) and use a Schluter type of edging. At least caulk the edges with paintable caulk and ignore it. The big picture looks good! It'll only bother you when you're at the sink. :)...See Moresuzyq53
