How to update this traditional home to transitional?
Comments (6)@ptreckel I completely agree. This kitchen is beautiful and very high quality cabinets still in fanstastic shape even though they are 15 years old. That is what I want some opinions on...What kind of lighting can I throw in there? Can I just do something like this that I love? And what would compliment these in dining area? Can I just update with modern black pulls/knobs/faucet? And what kind of barstools can I do? Yes, someday new counters, etc..but not anytime soon..new paint (but i think I might love that moss green on the walls)...lights, pulls, etc. Would love some ideas on these things :) @Sherry Brighton What kind of hardware do you suggest? Black? Chrome? @User Not renovating...cosmetic changes only. The cabinets are very nice..just not my taste, so looking for ways to do some changes that are more my style (Transitional) and still have it all make sense....See MoreThe best way to brighten/update a dark paneled foyer and staircase
Comments (9)its possible none of the surfaces ae original to the home. the value in that case is relative. In your community if there is a team that works with homes to do sensitive renovating I'd have a closer look at things . You havent indicated a whole house plan , do you like or dislike the paneling and so on. the value of the paneling if removed could be such that you could repurpose it. As well, old paneling gets painted often. What do you want from your older home? The picture is fuzzy and its only the entry way......its an odd little closet... maybe take it apart and make a better closet but I dont know.....A 200yr old home can be torture to deal with or something that rewards and satisfies you. too many unknowns. if you had time/resources/ help to do anything..... what would you re-create this area to be? look over the various areas in that sense then work to get close to some specefic goals, where it make sense over time , with your /budget/ resources etc. .... maybe you've renovated quite a bit inside and this is the last bit......we dont really know....See MoreSOS PLEASE help me update the foyer!
Comments (5)I need to see the spaces around this entry and I do not think wainscotiing pluncked into some rando place is a good idea. I do not see any anywhere else so it does not belong where you are planning it either .As for the stairway add a great runner to the siars and be done I do not think black and white is a good plan for thta space with those floors Simple is always better if cohesive is the plan then do not add to this except for a nice runner...See MoreSmall foyer help needed!
Comments (11)I think it would look fabulous painted. Go for it! Not difficult to change if you end up not liking it (but I think you’ll love it). This is actually grasscloth, but I included it just to show how the color really makes the fixture stand out: I had to screenshot this from an IG Reel, so it’s probably not helpful, but it’s your light with a gold Venetian plaster ceiling: A poster here asked about putting wallpaper on her entry ceiling a while back — of course most responders said don’t do it — she did and loves it. It looks amazing. Again, yours would be an easy fix back if necessary. Hopefully others can find better inspiration pics, I’m in a hurry and just grabbed these quickly. If you do it, please update!...See MoreRelated Professionals
