What color to paint mid-century modern living room?
Comments (7)@Patricia, here are some realtor photos from the rest of the house (previous owner's furniture, not mine) In this one, you can also see the stairway paint color (could I simply extend that one into the living room?)...See Moreinterior paint color for mid century modern home?
Comments (10)If you can remove the popcorn ceiling, it will make the ceilings look cleaner and newer. Since you have children, you need to be careful to not generate dust, to keep them from developing allergies or asthma. https://www.google.com/amp/s/pulse.seattlechildrens.org/the-dangers-of-home-renovation-keep-kids-safe-during-repairs/amp/ Caution: some popcorns ceilings contained asbestos. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.asbestos.com/blog/2018/07/24/asbestos-popcorn-ceiling-safe/amp/ The walls will have a better finish if you remove the wallpaper, scrub the walls to remove the adhesive (a wet roller mop works wonders) and then spray new texture to cover over where the adhesive was removed. Prime the walls and paint them in white flat paint. Then, using the same shade of white in a semi-gloss finish, put an extra coat of white on the woodwork (baseboards and doors). The screen between the dining room and hallway is non-structural. You can remove it but would have to patch the floor, ceiling and connection at the sidewall. Do everything white. If you don’t like the hallway, you can always find a way to rework it later with doors or cabinets. Sherwin Williams has 50 shades of white. You should be able to find a shade of white that is perfect for your home. They have a lightbox in the store that enables you to see the paint colors under different lighting conditions. Right now, they are having a 30% off sale: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/special-offers/digital-media...See MoreHelp! Exterior paint, trying for mid-century modern
Comments (12)Thank you! That is a great idea about the grey - I think minimizing the white would really help. The landscaping idea is also very clever. I was playing with the house facade last night, and was trying to figure out if anything else could be done with the entry area to brighten it up with an accent color. Now I see your comments about perhaps not doing an accent color may be better. The original house at the back was built in the 1960s and has beautiful wood vaulted ceilings, so the interior has a lot of potential. A very 90s addition was put on the front of the house, with these semi-circle windows and tile roof - so we are trying our best to tie these varying styles together. I appreciate your help! I will check out the links you provided, thank you, Shannon...See MoreMid Century Modern Exterior Paint Help
Comments (29)Browns and beiges are devlishly difficult to do well. And even harder for us who are interpreting these colours on our screens. On my screen your roof is not at all orange-brown. I took a shot of it your roof, enlarged it and this is what I see. A pinkish brown that is pretty close to the rosy brown shown below it. The darker colours are a burgundy brown or wine brown. The blue beside it is the complementary colour to pinkish brown - opposite on the colour wheel. On my screen and to my eye, this looks better than an orange door. Even the bit of orange on the pavement at the bottom of your picture seems to clash with the roof. The blue could be lighter or darker or less saturated, but stay in the same general level of blueness vs going more green-blue or more purple-blue. https://www.color-name.com/rosy-brown.color https://www.farrow-ball.com/en-us/colour-by-nature/deep-reddish-brown You could do worse than get a professional colour consultant on this. Whatever you choose, I'd paint some big sample boards and look at it in different lights before you pick up the paint brush....See MoreRelated Professionals
