First Bloom of the Year! Cinco De Mayo!
Comments (35)flowersaremusic I agree with the color( I don't think any of the photos here capture it) it does have a russet tea coral almost tan color at the outer edges for the petals. It is a very unusual color. And it scents up my house when I do gather masses inside for a few days. Mine is 3 yeas old(4?) and and it has never stopped being PROLIFIC! It is also getting quite large..like 5ft x 5ft. In fact I am going to have to move it this winter. Unfortunately the flowers don't last as cut flowers..not for me any how and I cut them underwater and all. I love this rose..too bad it is getting so big... they show off in front my large LV RM windows..I live in Willamette Valley Ore. zone 7. Rocky acid clay soil. I am stingy with water. But water very deeply when I do....See MoreMy first favorite rose of the season
Comments (35)I like Nik's comment above. I love seasonal change, including the flowerings that come and go. Right now the warm climate roses are leafing out wonderfully, and I'm living the suspense of waiting for the earliest peonies ('Mollis' and the tree peonies) to bloom. Their flowering is ephemeral, but with the runup of watching the plants sprout and the buds form, it doesn't feel like it. I look forward to them every year. I have a great many once-blooming roses and never feel like their flowering doesn't last long enough. If I could add to others' comments about the beauty of this rose, I would, but it's all already been said: my eloquence fails me....See MoreFirst little bloom on Chartreuse de Parme
Comments (16)Hey don't worry about it Lisa! I've done that before myself! LOL Those tags get faded or lost, and we move the pots around, they get mixed up... Two yrs ago I thought I had planted FIRST CRUSH in this one spot, then a couple months later, found it in a pot. So I dug out the "wrong" rose and potted it back up. Had to wait til it bloomed to find out what it really was. In the meantime, last yr I planted what I had labeled as PRAIRIE LASS in a nice ceramic pot by the pergola, only to have what appeared to be PRISCILLA BURTON show up in the pot. At first I thought I had a mis-marked rose from Heirloom, but figured I'd wait and see. Well, never found PB anywhere else, and the rose I thought was FIRST CRUSH just bloomed and it's PRAIRIE LASS! All three of these were small own-root plants, so without the correct tags it was impossible for me to know what was what. Your SONIA RYKIEL is gorgeous! I hope the one I think is my old one (got lost in the big dig-up two yrs ago) will truly be her. Only time will tell. It's a tiny own-root that sprang up in the spot where I thought SR was and had died... and she was an own-root rose so I'm hoping!!! If it's not... guess I'll have to order her from RU....See MoreMy first Gallicas to bloom are Barden’s Umbra and Etienne.
Comments (16)@User I have no idea about Paul's inspiration for the name 'Incantation', but I'll tell you it's a magical rose, lol. It can look like a different rose every flush, but lovely in every incarnation. Its color and shading seems to be very responsive (sensitive?) to temperature, and the plant loves heat. The blooms range from pink with a picotee edge to mottled pink to cerise. It's totally BS free for me (a miracle), and blooms its silly head off. The first flush almost completely covers the foliage. It will do it again and again if I remember to fertilize it on time, lol. I now officially have more roses than I can take care of, but I do try to dote on this one a bit. It's one of the few roses planted near the front door....See Morelinc1164 (Zone 7a central NJ)
