Would paint cabinets, put large format LVT over existing flooring, paint walls, and most importantly, change lighting and add art.

How are the appliances? From the looks of it, your stove has the old coil elements, which I wouldn't want to cook on. I'd update the appliances first and then paint the cabinets.

Also what is the space between your range and the cabinets? I'd add something there as a prep space.

A new counter top, sink and backsplash, along with new flooring, hardware and a paint job on the walls, could make the room really nice!

realistically...someone will do quite a bit ..like remove a wall, or bump out the back, or gut/ even relocate the kitchen. Doctoring things isn't really the best, all things considered . A new stove , as they are standard 30 in , could be a nice gesture....it can be used in any future planning.

Would suggest new appliances if you can afford. New flooring for sure. Painting the cabinetry sounds like a great idea especially a nice crisp color. Might consider changing out the cabinet pulls with something a bit updated. Would suggest replacing countertops but am sure that would be more than what you want to do. You'll be getting it ready to sell if you are only using it occasionally in the next year. Interview a couple very active real estate agents to get their advice about fixing up the house for sale. Markets are local. If they recommend doing the minimum, here's what I suggest.

Have the sheet vinyl flooring stripped or cleaned professionally, then sealed with a couple coats of floor finish (Pledge makes one). Paint the walls in a warm off white that will go with the honey colored wood cabinets. Replace the light switches and GFCI outlets with white ones. Do any repairs that have been pending. Wash the diffuser on the fluorescent fixture and change the old graying tubes to new ones.

If you want to have a dishwasher for your visits, you can buy a portable dishwasher (some can be converted to permanent installations later) you can put next to the stove.

Clean the cabinets well, I like them. Paint the walls and ceiling. If necessary, replace the sheet vinyl with another (fun) pattern. Replace the missing baseboards. As someone noted, put a work surface in that gap between the drawers and range, such as a portable dishwasher.

Is there another eating area? If so, I'd like a cool case piece for pantry items where the table and chairs are.

I also like Alex’s idea. I wouldn’t paint the cabinets. I definitely wouldn‘t change the kitchen to another trendy gray one. I wouldn’t put money into to replacing counters because depending on what you pick it can end up making a kitchen look like new counters OLD kitchen in a not so nice way. The counters appear to be solid white laminate (?) Which I think works well with the cabinets.

Is there any possibility you WON'T sell the home in a year? Since you mention enjoying the climate in the meantime I wonder if there is a chance you'll decide to keep it as a vacation option for yourselves and/or possibly as an airbnb if it's in an area where that would make sense. If that's a possibility, you may want to do a bit more than the most basic of bandaids though I'm not suggesting knocking down walls. There's a lot of middle ground between full on reno/remodel and bandaid.

Actually, yes, there is a great possibility of us keeping it and we are discussing an Airbnb.

What color walls do you all think if we were to keep the cabinets unpainted? Someone mentioned the warm white which I do like.

In my area, homes sell consistently regardless of condition. Improvements to sell are not worth their cost unless one is a good diy-er or something obvious is broken and needs to be replaced (like a window).

Jolene is this a one story house? And if not, does whatever is above the kitchen lend itself to a skylight or a solatube?
