Weird roots from base of stems
Comments (4)If it is rose roots coming cleanly from the stems of the rose, then just cover the roots with a good layer of soil. The rose will be perfectly happy--actually even happier because more roots = a stronger plant. Roses are one of the few plants that can be buried a little deeper without any problem. Most plants do not like this, but roses do not mind. If the roots are coming from a strange, cork-like type of mass attached to the rose stem, then that is crown gall, a serious bacterial infection. You can google up pictures of rose crown gall to see if that is it....See MoreKalanchoe tomentosa growing aerial roots---why?
Comments (2)Thanks Dzitmoidonc! The plant was given to me 2 months ago - it was a cutting back then. When I checked its roots at that time, it had none. I do not know how much roots it has grown since then - I have to check. How long does it usually take for a plant to be pot bound? As for the plant becoming leggy - it hasn't happened yet. I mean, I think it still looks the same from the time I received it. But I might try what you had suggested in the future when the plant becomes leggy. Honestly, I have been observing the months every week and I don't notice anything (regarding the plant growing) except for the aerial roots. I will keep this advice in mind when I am watering. Thanks again!...See MoreJade plant growing roots on stem
Comments (26)That is not jade (Crassula ovata) but Kalanchoe blosfeldiana. Succulents should not be grown or rooted in water (even if some pp do, it is not recommended). Most will rot. Just as they do if in soil that is too wet - as you discovered:..."Too much water and the roots looked like they were rotting"... This Kalanchoe is very easy plant to grow. Pot it up in well draining mix, and it should root. Btw, they will grow also very easily from leaves. I would trim piece of the stem off where either line shows. Let it callus for few hours and pot it up: Make mix of Cactus and Succulent soil and sited perlite, mixing them 1:1 to get good drainage. Here is cutting, similar to yours, potted:Rocks you see are there just to support plant/cutting until roots start growing and anchor it. It is best not to water cuttings without roots, since they can't take in any water and may start rotting if stems sit in wet soil. Put it in bright place but not strong sun, and wait to water until you see new growth - that is usually when roots start growing. Or you can gently tug on it after a while - if there are roots growing, you'll feel some resistance. But do not try looking for roots by digging it up :) It should root in couple of weeks or so. You may see plant growing some air roots from the stem - Kalanchoes often do....See More'Pink Princess' Philodendrun,....What Is It Worth ??
Comments (6)Well I sold my Pink Princess today. got a great price for it. I think I could have asked even MORE for it and gotten it. The guy that bought it has dozens of this one already, he showed me pics. on his phone of his, but as he said, his are all turning totally pink! No green leaves, so they are dying. No chlorophyll for the plants to live. Same for his Monstera Varigatas! All white leaves. No green. So he wanted a stable Pink Princess. Well he got mine. Had I known how much money he obviously makes, I would have held out for double!! He didnt blink at the $50 price hike I put on it. So....I could have gotten more, but I didnt know. but at least it went with a plant lover. Next is my BIG one. I posted a new post about it, to make cuttings from it...I need rooting advise....See MorePoohBearLvr
