Entry level home -- best counter for resale -- new laminate or
Comments (24)If you're selling, just stage it. I'd like to see your hardware closer. Do not replace a counter with another like material. It's pointless. You're kitchen is perfectly neutral, so just give it a bang. Here's what I would do: 1- I would replace the hardware, IF necessary. 2-I would place some paintings (3) along the walls to add some color. You know those kitchen-y pics of a chef, grapes, or people sitting at tables, ect. Use something neutral- Colors that go with the rest of the area, and pleasing to the eye. Place a couple of LARGE items on the counter for a warm affect(not kitchen appliances-lol), or just place fresh flowers, or fruit on the counter to create a focal point. Make sure all these things go together. Keep it simple. If you're really adamant about replacing a counter, go to a granite yard and look for remnants. You can get a small counter done for a little more than laminate. Go with the cheaper granite. Backsaplshes are tricky, because if not done neutral, people may not like it. That is why I would suggest standing pictures along the wall...Peoples' eyes will be drawn to the decor, rather than noticing a lack of backsplash ;)...See MoreCounter top help for this cookie cutter kitchen..(pics)
Comments (15)Yea, the counters aren't in bad shape at all. Except there's some water damage around that wood trim. Which is also the part I hate the most. That trim! And with wanting to paint the cabs white, I can't leave that and I don't like the look of that part painted, either. You know how you walk in the room, and something just stands out and as eye sore, making you not like the entire room. That's what these counters do for me. I really wouldn't mind the kitchen at all, if it weren't for those. Heck..I'd probably not even paint the cabs, (a whole other fear there). But, the green with the red paint kills me. If we don't get them done in the next six months, we're painting the kitchen again. Just to get rid of the red and green. It's funny, one of the reasons we bought this house a yr ago over some of the others, was because of the counters. I was so sick of seeing the same granite everywhere, this was a nice change. I think if I could go to a granite yard, pick out a beautiful slab I'd consider doing granite. But, I'm really just tired of seeing it in every single house I go to. High end homes, to middle of the road ones like mine. I have no choice but to do something cheaper, from a box store. And I just can't see doing the thin, little granite slabs all the builders and flippers do around here....See MoreConsiderations for kitchen makeover
Comments (24)My excellent handyman contractor made sure to upgrade my apartment's main electrical panel, which is located at the entrance to my kitchen, when we redid the kitchen. The apartment is 39 years old and he simply said that a newer one with more power was needed. Not something my KD thought of. I made sure to put 4 outlets in every cabinet that has electricity, e.g., the appliance garage and the cabinet where my network router now lives. My breakfast bar is where my phone is charged. I put one of these under it, on the outside of the pony wall. It has one USB outlet and one USB-C outlet, the new standard. Eliminates the need for something to plug the phone into. https://www.amazon.com/Top-Greener-TU21548AC-Receptacle-Interchangeable/dp/B01FREZ8VE When I bought my apartment 38 years ago, the kitchen had a clean lined white cabinets with black slate floors. People couldn't understand why I replaced it, because it still looked good. My new kitchen? Custom clean lined white cabinets with a grey printed black porcelain floor. Avoid trendy colors, like all the grey, beige neutrals around. Think about solutions that have become cliches - like subway tile. Yes, it is clean and inexpensive. But... waaay overdone. Be brave - get something simple in a shape or that is dimensional! When I was looking for handles I saw variations of the same modern handle everywhere, in every country. So I bought something different. Think about what might lock you into expensive solutions forever, like a counter depth refrigerator. Buy appliances in standard, common sizes so you can always find good quality replacements. Good luck!...See MoreHelp with laundry room
Comments (35)The tile alone has really freshened up this space! It is nice to have all that storage but if removing the back cabinets would give you some room (and you don’t need storage) then go for it. Maybe you could get or DIY a drop down table for that wall for folding? That or drop down drying racks....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
