All my hostas look like minis compared to yours mbug! ;-) Ha. I do love the minis though. Seriously, they are so addicting.

Love the bowl planting!looks like things are a bit further along for you, I still have hosta trying to finish unfurling. My minis are doing pretty good so far.

Sherry, was it your bowl I got the rock idea from? Seems like maybe it was! My other minis are doing quite well with the exception of Mouse Trap. He is really not doing well. I'm not even sure he's going to make it.

I didn’t have rocks with my minis, was wracking my old brain trying to remember. Looks like Esther solved the problem. I was thinking nicholsworth used rocks too......hmmmmm.

What are your plans for the little cypress, come winter? I have been looking at one myself for a fairy garden.

linnea56, to be honest my plan is probably just to treat it like an annual. My experience with the dwarfs has not been good in the past. They usually get dried out and die by the end of the summer. Fortunately, I didn't pay too much for it ($10). I could try potting it in a larger pot and putting it in a protected spot maybe on the north side of my house. Do you have any ideas for me?

All I can think of, popmama - and what I may do if I buy one for my fairy garden - is to plant it right into the ground in late fall. If it survives the winter, back into the fairy garden. But my fairy garden is a glazed pot I made, and I know for sure that cannot be stored outdoors over winter. The other plants I've bought for it (so far) are houseplants: I will bring the whole assemblage indoors, minus the cypress.

I saw a whole cart full of the tiny trees at a Lowe's a few weeks ago. I couldn't help thinking, "Are you all doomed?"

Haha...Linnea! That was funny "Are you all doomed?" That is exactly what I was thinking! This one garden center near me had a whole lot of them. The first time I looked at them, I left with nothing because I know my history with them. But then I just couldn't resist when they discounted them 20% off. I bought the cypress, an adorable cotoneaster (just look at it! It even has tiny berries on it!), and

a variegated boxwood.

I just decided that I would treat them like annuals and adore them as long as they last.

Sherry..good memory!..I've used rocks and forks..and squirrels still climb up!..I've picked up rocks and forks that they've knocked out..my neighbor took empty soda cans and tried to "bend" them over the sides of the pot..don't know if this works..I haven't talked to her since she told me a few days ago..

popmama..I'm trying to train myself that it's ok to splurge sometimes..enjoy the plant and don't feel guilty if I don't bring it in and keep it going..it's funny I think of myself as conservative with money but if the total of my "good buys" was actually calculated it's probably a big number Lol..your bowl 'o minis is adorable..
