After the fire ... help with condo floor plan?
Comments (17)Thanks, bpathome. I will definitely ask that the step be eliminated. You're right, it doesn't really help anyone enter or exit the tub. A grab bar is more important. The gas fireplace under the piano window would vent out the back with no chimney (no deck behind it either -- just concrete). We'll get a contemporary linear shape -- echoing the look of the window above. The loft has always been frustrating. The light it lets in is really the only good thing about it. Our neighbour with the same floor plan uses hers as a play area for grandchildren. The builder suggested making it an office. I see it as just another TV-watching space, maybe with a pullout sofa for guests (family) who don't mind the lack of privacy once in a while. I'm glad you like the electric fireplace! Most people I talk with are very snobby about gas vs. electric ... electric equalling fakey-fake and useless. Technically, it COULD be gas up there, but I think making it movable (or removable) is wiser in this case. It's that darn loft again ... what will it be when it grows up? Comments (13)I'm just gonna copy and paste what I wrote over the bathroom forum. Apparently I confused them too! "The only real pattern would be the accent tile... first or last picture as example. The field would be a solid color subway, be it glass or ceramic. Right now I'm looking at glass cause the ceramics I like are too expensive and I want a non maintance item so have ruled out too much marble I think. So I included pics of the soft green and soft blue. I'll try and get pics but it's so small you can't stand there and get it all in. It's 8x4 I think... no bigger. The vanity will be narrow depth, about 18" if I recall and the sink is that exact same depth. I should probably wait till my ideas are more streamlined so I can be clearer. Right now I'm all over the place but it is kinda fun to have a project to think about. Thanks!" Hope that clarifies a little....See MoreHelp me pick a floor- no way to match the rest of the house
Comments (16)Luxury vinyl planks were looked at at the flooring store and quickly dismissed, as was laminate. They just seemed plasticy. I know I wouldn't be happy with them right next to the solid hardwood. As for tile or staining the concrete, I live in Chicago. I like to walk around my condo barefoot. No way am I having tile or bare concrete for floors. That would be good for Florida or something but not here. Actually, the longer I have the samples here, the more I am drawn to the cork samples. They have a warmth and a natural feel even more than the engineered hardwood. handmethathammer- what I'm worried about with cork isn't so much the bikes. The bikes have always lived in the house and I've never had any kind of mess that didn't come undone with a damp rag. I'm more worried about the other bedroom which we will also do and is used as a bedroom. I have a very heavy storage bed. I'm worried about denting the cork from the weight of it. blfenton- that's a good idea, except I really, really hate gray. Also, it's a dark enough room that gray would look even more sad. I definitely want to bring in warm tones. crl- every floor guy I talked to refused to do it. Said it was just too much of a height difference. Said I wouldn't be happy with the result at all. So, all said, what kind of cork should I go for? I'm leaning towards the lightest sample at the moment....See MoreFurnish Florida Beach Condo
Comments (23)Yes as havingfun said some do some don't. In my area for some reason September , October and November are the best CL months for furniture ( sometimes throughout the summer) . Once we are in full season the prices go way way up and it's harder to find nice things at good prices. November is pushing it but great finds are still there. If you are lucky you will find that expensive but hardly sat on sofa one has in the formal living room of their 2nd home and out of boredom they just want to redecorate. Normally things in that scenario are priced way to high for CL to start but eventually come down. If you really like something though go and see it to get your foot in the door. You can always make an offer. A low offer will most always be excepted from the person with a van or truck before a person with a car. I have a van so when inquiring on big stuff I mention that in the 1st sentence. If I'm the one selling I always get back with the people who say they have a vehicle that can haul first. When shopping on CL you have to usually just zero in on items individually. If you look at the rooms as a whole you might miss some good stuff....See MoreBeth H. :
