Congratulations come AFTER an Achievement

Picky Sue is here to point out that it doesn't make sense to congratulate people in advance of some achievement. We congratulate the bride and groom after they've married. We offer best wishes before the marriage. We congratulate people after a competition or for receiving some recognition. Until then, we wish them good luck.

An unpleasant thought occurs to me when someone is congratulated on a forthcoming marriage. ("Wow, you found someone who'd marry you." lol)
