You have to show the entire house, not just closeups to get effective feedback.

If it’s already wearing after a few years, I’d live with it and wait for the creaminess that comes with age. The visual texture will be greater and it will hide more dirt. On a separate note, I wonder if that initial distaste/annoyance has more sway on you than its current state. The stone looks like it belongs with the site and is therefore visually good to me and I don’t normally go for the warm tones.

seregiel, the house is 12 years old. The color hasn't changed much at all since it was built. I don't think it will ever not be "yellow/gold". There is exterior trim that needs replacing and painting, as well as our desire to remove the "Tudor" type trim on the stucco and changing exterior lighting fixtures. Since we are spending money to update and repaint, we really would prefer to address this now since the paint colors we'd choose would be different if the stone wasn't the color that it is. Truly looking to find advice on how to change it, but thank you for your comment.

I wouldn't try to change the character of the house by changing the stone. I think you may like it better if the siding wasn't gold as well. Try some siding/trim colors on a paint visualizer site to see if a change to warm white siding or a light taupe/grey taken from the stone helps the overall look of the house. I don't think the Tudor details add anything to the house. I would paint them the same color as the siding if you don't want to remove them.

Just returned from 6000 mile road trip, I can tell you every area of this beautiful country has its own native materials incorporated into its structures. Chicago brick, Pennsylvania bluestone, Florida coral stone-all would look out of place on your house, but are perfect for their areas. The material on your exterior suits the countryside where you live.

I agree, the stone is a good fit for the site. The “Tudoresque” details are not.

Did you finally repaint the stone? I have exactly the same color and I am looking for solutions.

I love the stone. I would leave it alone. The Tudor accents should go though.

The stone is absolutely stunning! The stone looks more yellow because of the gold toned Tudor trim. I would consider changing the Tudor trim/stucco to a more cream/putty shade that matches your mortar. Head to the paint store and get some samples that you can mock-up (the paint store will also have large 2 x2 foam core boards for just this) and look at it from a distance. I’ll bet anything, the stone will look much more to your liking.

karenjvigil, I did! Well, I actually “mortared over it”. The Tudor trim is gone and we changed all the exterior lights. We also mortared over the interior fireplace. It is incredible now!

For anyone interested we spent many months deciding what to do with the stone. We decided on covering it with mortar. We pulled the Tudor trim off and redid the stucco that was underneath. We then painted all the stucco a color that was a perfect match to the window trim color. We used BM Deep Creek as the dark trim around the eves and beams on the back patio. We added 10 Bevelo electric fixtures wherever there was an existing outdoor fixture. Increased the size of each fixture which really added an added punch around the perimeter. The interior fireplace was the last of the yellow stone, so it had to go too! We ended up remodeling the entire interior and now this is a home I love to come home to! Thank you all!

@relyfe Sorry that I missed your question completely. With the help of a designer, we used a local stone/stucco contractor. He suggested we try several variations of colored “mortar”. He varied the color by using different colored sand in the mixture. We went with the whiter/light beigier of the proposed colors. He built low walls out of the exact same colored stone so we could visually see exactly what it would look like once it was applied. They troweled it on and smoothed it. It still has an uneven look but the actual individual stones are no longer visible. It is beautiful and still fits into the Hill Country aesthetic. If you were interested in anything else specific, please don’t hesitate to ask.
