CNN ratings death spiral continues

Do you watch CNN ? It seems they have set a new record ...low.

CNN Ratings Death Spiral Continues

CNN's prime-time ratings plunged 26% in April - the cable news networks worst month for total viewers since October 2015, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The network suffered a 41% slide in viewers aged 25 to 54 the demographic most coveted by advertisers. And not one of its prime-time shows finished in the top five for news.
Three news networks saw April declines in the desirable demographic over last year, with MSNBC down 36% and Fox News down 19%.
Fox News led the pack in prime time ratings, drawing an average of 2.4 million viewers to its top lineup, flat over April 2018.

CNN’s ratings drop coincides with release of Mueller report

MSNBC’S RACHEL MADDOW’S RATINGS PLUMMET TO YEARLY LOW

https://dailycaller.com/2019/05/21/msnbc-rachel-maddow-ratings-low/

"MSNBC primetime host Rachel Maddow brought in her worst weekly ratings of the year last week.

Her show last week averaged 2,324,000 viewers, with an average audience of 337,000 in the 25-54 age demographic, both of which mark yearly lows for the liberal television host, according to Nielsen Media Research."

Barr has many investigations going on. The IG report will be released soon and Durham is in full gear, having already heard grand jury testimony.

I wonder if CNN will put those 2 brain cells to good use and cover all of it.

Might help their ratings.

Just sayin'

They have to be getting nervous about the results of trying so hard to decide the news (and then being dead wrong) rather than reporting the news. As Pelosi prayed for the president and suggested an intervention yesterday, they were a little harder on her than they usually are. I think, at some point and for the sustainability of their business models, they have to start getting it right more often than simply reporting or supporting what they so desperately want, only to look like idiots when the outcomes go in the completely opposite direction. I think standing behind (what I think was a strange meltdown from) Nancy yesterday, even had MSM a little nervous. The montages of "manufactured crisis", "collusion", and such are just becoming embarrassing as one after another goes the opposite direction in reality.

We'll see how they play (or if they play) the news about the current investigations into the Mueller probe origins. If it becomes really big news and they simply don't cover it, they'll lose. It they play it down as a big nothing, and it turns into quite a something, they'll lose. What they do with it will be risky on their part, with their plummeting ratings.

I don't watch CNN, but my reason is very mundane.

THAT BIG RECTANGLE at the bottom of their videos. Blocking out viewing of a major portion of the screen.

FOX does this, too. Don't watch them either.

Final note (at least today): How popular something is, is no reflection of the value of something being presented. While I have no issue with Maddow's ratings plummeting, it is still important to realize that truth is not necessarily going to win a popularity contest. Which makes me a bit askew at the point of this thread to begin with.

Ziemia, I think I should have said, supporting Nancy made MSM nervous yesterday. They actually challenged her a bit more than they usually do and questioned her "cover up" statement.

You've hit the nail on the head. They curate the information vs. providing viewers with news. And they took such a HUGE gamble, and lost.

Now we can look back and say "FOX was right all along about Trump and Russian collusion" and "Tucker Carlson had Avenatti pegged all along and had the guts to look that criminal in the face and call him on his horse poop".

All while Rachel Maddow contorted her face and wiped the spittle from the corners of her mouth and waved around Trump's tax returns showing how many millions he paid the government, doing her best Alex Jones imitation.

I do not know how people have time to watch all this television. I know summer ratings are always lower for all shows. I understand shut ins and elder viewers what else do they have. Fox should not be compared to paid channels especially for their audience. The channel is network TV not a paid cable channel.

The RWers say they voted for trump because they wanted jobs, they were the forgotten man. So it sounds about right that there are reasons for higher viewers. They do not have a job more time to watch free TV because they cannot afford paid tv.

Hmm, so are Trump's ratings - pattern?

ETA: Speaking of ratings, why haven't Trump's approval ratings ever gone up to-- or above 50%?

Obama's did--way above, I guess that makes Obama the winner.... and Trump the loser, clearly by the logic by the righties here when it comes to CNN & RM.

Morning Consult has an interactive graphic
that tracks the sitting president's approval ratings by state over
time. Even Wyoming has dropped by double digits since January 2017.
Pennsylvania: -17; Michigan: -17; Wisconsin: -19.

"btw chase, did FOX tell you for the last two years that Trump colluded with Russia?"

No, but they often reported that his campaign may be guilty of such actions and it turns out they were right. You also may recall that all along I didn't think Trump was involved in a conspiracy with Russia and CNN is my preferred American news source.

While not the criminal act of conspiracy, knowingly accepting the help of a foreigner adversary with the intent of helping you win is by definition collusion. Handing over your voter data to the Russian spy agency is by definition collusion, Trying to get "dirt on your opponent directly from a Russian agent is by definition collusion.

I. Summary of Major Findings

The redacted Mueller Report documents a series of activities that
show strong evidence of collusion. Or, more precisely, it provides
significant evidence that Trump Campaign associates coordinated with,
cooperated with, encouraged, or gave support to the Russia/WikiLeaks
election interference activities.
The Report documents the following
actions (each of which is analyzed in detail in Part II):

1. Trump was receptive to a Campaign national security adviser’s (George Papadopoulos) pursuit of a back channel to Putin.

2. Kremlin operatives provided the Campaign a preview of the Russian plan to distribute stolen emails.

3. The Trump Campaign chairman and deputy chairman (Paul
Manafort and Rick Gates) knowingly shared internal polling data and
information on battleground states with a Russian spy; and the Campaign chairman worked with the Russian spy on a pro-Russia “peace” plan for Ukraine.

4. The Trump Campaign chairman periodically shared internal polling data with the Russian spy with the expectation it would be shared with Putin-linked oligarch, Oleg Deripaska.

5. Trump Campaign chairman Manafort expected Trump’s winning
the presidency would mean Deripaska would want to use Manafort to
advance
Deripaska’s interests in the United States and elsewhere.

6. Trump Tower meeting: (1) On receiving an email offering
derogatory information on Clinton coming from a Russian government
official, Donald Trump Jr. “appears to have accepted that offer;” (2)
members of the Campaign discussed the Trump Tower meeting beforehand;
(3) Donald Trump Jr. told the Russians during the meeting that Trump
could revisit the issue of the Magnitsky Act if elected.

7. A Trump Campaign official told the Special Counsel he
“felt obliged to object” to a GOP Platform change on Ukraine because it
contradicted Trump’s wishes; however, the investigation did not
establish that Gordon was directed by Trump.

8. Russian military hackers may have followed Trump’s July
27, 2016 public statement “Russia if you’re listening …” within hours by
targeting Clinton’s personal office for the first time.

9. Trump requested campaign affiliates to get Clinton’s emails,
which resulted in an individual apparently acting in coordination with
the Campaign claiming to have successfully contacted Russian hackers.

10. The Trump Campaign—and Trump personally—appeared to have advanced knowledge of future WikiLeaks releases.

11. The Trump Campaign coordinated campaign-related public communications based on future WikiLeaks releases.

12. Michael Cohen, on behalf of the Trump Organization,
brokered a secret deal for a Trump Tower Moscow project directly
involving Putin’s inner circle, at least until June 2016.

13. During the presidential transition, Jared Kushner and
Eric Prince engaged in secret back channel communications with Russian
agents. (1) Kushner suggested to the Russian Ambassador that they use a
secure communication line from within the Russian Embassy to speak with
Russian Generals; and (2) Prince and Kushner’s friend Rick Gerson
conducted secret back channel meetings with a Putin agent to develop a
plan for U.S.-Russian relations.

14. During the presidential transition, in coordination with
other members of the Transition Team, Michael Flynn spoke with the
Russian Ambassador to prevent a tit for tat Russian response to the
Obama administration’s imposition of sanctions for election
interference; the Russians agreed not to retaliate saying they wanted a
good relationship with the incoming administration.

During the course of 2016, Trump Campaign associates failed to report
any of the Russian/WikiLeaks overtures to federal law enforcement,
publicly denied any contacts with Russians/WikiLeaks, and actively
encouraged the public to doubt that Russia was behind the hacking and
distribution of stolen emails.

Back to collusion and investigations for a second. According to a new Harvard Harris poll, 65% of Americans don't want impeachment proceedings to begin. 60% agree with Barr that Trump's actions didn't amount to obstruction of justice, and 58% think the page should be turned on investigations of Trump, given the Mueller report. Keep in mind these polls refer to a president with job approval numbers in the mid to low 40s - which means a lot of people who don't approve of Trump, don't approve of the Dem's investigations.

Conversely, and from the same poll, 55% think FBI bias against Trump played a role in launching investigations against him and 61% favor a special counsel to investigate FBI abuses.

The numbers against impeachment seem to have dropped . I thought it was higher than that.

I would also have expected the number favouring an investigation into the FBI by a Special Counsel to be higher than that...surprisingly low IMO.
