Is too much brown a bad or good thing? Need opinions
Comments (23)I KNOW I had updated pictures of our Cowboy Chic den but can't for the life of me find them. The 24x26 room isn't a brown brown, more of a orangy brown. Walls and sectional pretty much the same color. The carpet is an antelope print (that's what it's called but it's really an axis deer print, same as the skin on the coffee table)with brown in it. My punches of color are the pillows on the sectional. They're all the same style pillow in brick red, sage green, brownish green, orange, dark brown and gold. Even the tile is close in color and dark brown wood coffee table and end tables. This is the only picture I can find...oh, AND the ceiling in this large room is wood too. I think it's a personal preference whether or not you think it's too much of the same color. We've got a 10 foot long white Austin Chopped stone fireplace (goes all the way to the ceiling) that breaks up the color and plenty of other accessories on the walls (plus 10 windows). Monotone-ish den Vaulted ceiling Couch. We've had THREE couches in this den in 9 years :o The first leather sectional broke (handle) and was replaced under an extended warranty. The second leather set, I never liked. It was uncomfortable and too formal looking for our room. The third time was the charm and it's NOT leather. It's our favorite by far! We have two grandchildren that are here as often as they can talk their momma into letting them come over LOL At least 3 days a week. Even tho food and drink isn't allowed in there and shoes are supposed to come off at the door, stuff happens. Hands don't get wiped or they'll sneak a leaky sippy cup in there while I'm not looking. This is some kind of microfiber that at first glance and especially at a distance, looks like leather. A wipe with a damp microfiber cloth is all it takes to clean it. It's definitely a miracle fabric :) And the baby on the couch...he's the best accessory :)...See MoreNeed help decorating a living room with brown carpet
Comments (21)Hi Ozlem, Definitely remove that floral sofa, there is too much going on in the space. I don't think personally that the colours on the walls match the colours of the sofa. I think the walls are a shade or two darker than it should be. The rug is also too small for the space, I would opt for a larger rug with maybe a pattern picking up other colours in the room. Also have you thought about changing the layout a little bit? I would move the TV to the wall where the floral couch is currently at and put a floor standing lamp next to it in the corner by the couch. I think it would make more sense there and also you could have the option of watching TV whilst at the dining table. I would then leave the wall the TV is at now with no furniture on it so that there is a clear pathway to the dining room and just put some simple art work on it. A lovely home you got!...See MoreUpdated: "Help me decorate my living room - Desperate help needed!"
Comments (1)I see a few things that aren’t horrible, by any means, but could be changed. Mirror and sideboard, for instance, as mirror is too large for the sideboard and it overwhelms the room, reflecting the t v. Try the art over the sideboard and add a floor lamp where the plant is, as it will do double duty for the sofa and the art. Have you ever thought about adding a floor to ceiling strip of trim to separate the dining area from the living area and painting that wall a color? Something like this with a couple of white shelves on that wall?...See MoreHelp! I have a large living room and I think too much furniture!
Comments (15)@rogerssic Symmetry or lack of it depends on the effect wanted. I think symmetry is very formal looking so sometimes it’s needed. But, what’s more important and easier to think about and see is balance. That is, are the pieces in the scape balanced and not all weighted to one side. I can’t see, from my crude calculations, why the 2 recliners can’t fit with couches in an L formation if the couch with back to window is moved closer to window. Both chairs can be angled toward center of room. I see one chair in front of DR entry opening, at left side of couch facing TV & the other close to corner at left of FP. Leave the floor lamp there for that recliner & move the other pieces out. The chair needs a small side table too. About the coffee table, it can be in front of either couch but maybe fits better in front of couch along window bc of the 1 recliner across from it. If the folks on the couch facing TV & FP need feet rests, pouffs are wonderful & portable things! Might need a small table in area between that couch left end & recliner & I think it will fit. This arrangement works out great in my head so I hope it sounds feasible enough to try out. In my mind’s eye, it’s a very balanced arrangement!😁...See Morekittycat31
