Comments (19)Thanks for your thoughts and comments! We are also downsizing from a traditional 4700 sq ft house (with formal living/dining) to 3600 sq ft with a great room design, so it is taking some getting used to, but we really wanted a house where we used every inch rather than having all these extra rooms we rarely used. Our old house was large, but didn't use the space the way I would use it--my laundry room was tiny (a closet really) and the bedrooms were large but the kids rooms had tiny closets. So, with this house, we made made sure the kids still had large rooms like they were used to and got larger closets and their own bathrooms to boot (my son doesn't really care, but my daughter is super excited to get her own bathroom and walk in closet :)). Once they move out, we'll have mini suites downstairs for guests. The kitchen/dining/living area is 41' long. Looks like we will be working with roughly the same area for those spaces. :) What is the total sq footage of your house? Of our 3600 sq ft, there is about 1930 for the main and about 1670 for the LL. Nice that you were able to fit 3 bedrooms downstairs and still have a nice sized rec room and play area. We will also have a wet bar down in our rec room. :) Great idea about adding water line in one of the storage rooms for laundry! We do plan to add stairs from the deck outside but just couldn't decide where to place them so figured we would wait to make that decision at the time the deck is being built so we could see what it looks like. I love that you will have an outdoor shower. Love those! We plan to put a hot tub on the deck right outside the master. Thought about putting it down on the LL patio, but my DH really wants it on the deck. Gotta give in to what he wants every once in a while ;-)....See Moremock up backsplash feedback needed
Comments (8)Thanks for the feeback so far! dkichenreno- yes, some of the 2x2s were placed at a diagonal (some 1x1s also). I don't plan on using any other accents on the walls mainly because of the outlet placement, the coffee pot and the canisters. We really tried to fit them in, but it wouldn't work. remodelfla- seeing if I follow you on the framing-- do you think it would look better to use the 2x2 glass tiles in place of the 5/8 x 8" glass tile on the inside of the taupish tiles in the framing? blondelle- I understand what you mean about the "diffuseness." .. to many inserts on a small scale. Anyone have any suggestions to help this or more suggestions?...See Moreisland and pendant mock-up - comment please!
Comments (13)Thank you all for the input. breezygirl, yes, it is to the scale (exact sizes, the paper mock of the square light and the cardboard 52" x 36"). I did think of one vs two lights and came to the same "problem" that my ceiling is just 1" short of 8' so big ones I liked were too long. Another thing was that this island light was going to be the "main" light despite recessed lights around the kitchen since my kids will be doing their homework and etc while I cook. So looking for a one light fixture that would either have more than one bulb or one bulb birhter than multi bulbs has been somewhat of a challenge. Now... It may be too bright with 4 bulbs in each of this light fixture but I am somewhat of a light freak so I rather have more than not... breezygirl, I do have a question for your pennisula light. A bit confused... My island's length is very similar to yours. According to my calculation, my lights will be 13" from either end then have 26" in the middle to have them evenly spaced. Your lights seem to be a bit closed in the middle. Is that how lights should be placed? A bit closer to the center? Sigh.. So may things to think of... I am just glad that I have this forum people to help me through......See MoreRequesting a mock-up, please =)
Comments (18)Thanks for the info, I have been on the hunt for wall decor. I think it would fill the space better with 2 vertical pieces instead of one horizontal. I am also trying to fill a big space behind a sectional 108X108. I used painters tape to see what would fill the 60 inches of space. Two vertical prints, 36x48 fit perfectly. You might try the tape and see what fits your wall better. My pick on the three above would be no. 2....See MoreJAN MOYER
