Anyone have a DUCTLESS vent hood
Comments (7)while i would always prefer to Vent (gas cooktop), in city apts, that is usually not possible. Therefore, we settled on a very thin profile unit that pulls out from the cabinet, mounted right underneath the cab, and when closed, doesnt protude toward your head. You pull it out whereupon the vent and or the light comes on (depending on your setting). The suctioned air goes thru filters in a box in the overhead cabinet and then ultimately expels the air back into the kitchen thru another place. NOT ideal but does reduce SOME of the kitchen odors, espec since our kitchen is not fully enclosed and has wide openings to the dining room and on the opposite side too. Drawback is noisy. Tho admittedly we did this work in 1998 and it and all the kitchen remodel has held up beautifully, perhaps there are units avail now that are quieter. (Note that in a country cottage in a rural area, we are installing a Vent where the fan and mechanics are EXTERIOR, so that there is little noise. This is the ideal.) I think having some option is better than none. And makes cleaning better too....See MoreDifficulty finding installer for Daikin ductless minisplit system
Comments (2)You are asking another contractor to attach to a portion of the system, the line set, that they have not installed. While it may seem a small thing, in the event of a system malfunction the new contractor ends up having to guarantee the previously installed line set. I can see where that would make them nervous. What if the line set is partially kinked? Is it completely & easily accessible. Having been in the contracting business I will say that your proposed solution, having a portion of the job installed, purchasing the equipment on line and then asking someone to finish the install is the absolute worst type of job for a contractor to get involved with. Usually in this kind of situation, if you can find someone to do the job, as they have no real responsibility for the equipment the contractor is in no way responsible for its operation. I would suggest that you go to the Fujitsu, Mitsubishi and Daikin sites and look at their Contractor Locator page and go from there. They are the top of the line manuf in mini-splits. I'd also go to the guy who installed the line set and tell him straight up that you want a refund on the line-set. He will balk at the suggestion. You then tell him either he finish it or he should let his best tech (not a meathead) moonlight this job. It may be easier for him to give one of his guys the go ahead to do it and make a problem go away. This is a problem for him too....See MoreMitsubishi Mr. Slim Ductless Unit Noise Issues
Comments (59)I rent an apartment that is heated/air conditioned by a Mitsubishi wall mounted unit with two pumps installed on the outside wall of my bedroom. Last year, I didn't seem to recall having any problems, but since winter set in, this year, there have been periods of excessive humming noise and vibration so that I could not sleep. Then a couple of weeks ago, during a snowstorm, water came through the ceiling unit in my living room. It ceased rather quickly once I shut down the unit. Interestingly enough, the outside noise and vibration seemed to have quietened down until a week or so ago. My landlord checked and confirmed that he heard the noise outside my window, and called a service technician, who came today. Low and behold, nice and quiet, no issues. I told him it was intermittent, but the company doesn't really deal with Mitsubishi so the representative couldn't offer an explanation, just suggested to tape record it when the noise happens again. I am not crazy or oversensitive. As a matter of fact, I have severe hearing impairment in one ear and cannot hear the alarm go off if I am lying on that side. Yet, for nights and days and weeks, the noise and vibration was so intense I couldn't sleep or concentrate on any activity. Has anyone else had this problem?...See MoreDuctless Split - LG Art Cool or Mitsubishi Mr. Slim?
Comments (4)We replaced our near 18 y.o. Mitsubishi in 2010 with a new Mr. Slim. Haven't got the model # handy but it's the one that runs from about 4400 btu up to 22,000 btu as required. (it's a cooling only model) . It works really well and is very quiet inside. The outside unit is virtually silent making no noise whatsoever so putting it on or near a patio is no problem whatsoever. You can't hear the fan and you can't hear the compressor at all. How they do it I don't know. However there are two things I don't like about it and you may want to consider depending on where you place the indoor unit. To clean the filters the front opens upwards like a hatchback and you may need a ladder to get them out and replace. They slide in on a curved rail.. Our old Mitsubishi I could just reach up and they slid straight down . Now it's a chore because our unit is located above the stairwell going upstairs and a ladder is a necessity and a bugger to position in front of the stairway It's also needed the blower fan in the indoor unit cleaned each summer because so much dust and dirt accumulated on the vanes that it couldn't get up to top speed.. For some reason the filters just don't filter even though they're installed correctly. Air just seems to get around them from the sides or something.. It costs about $150 to have the tech come and clean that out. If I'd known about this at the start I probably would have bought another brand. It cost about $1000 more than the other brands but had a better warranty and that sort of sold me plus the fact that the previous one had lasted so long.. but those filters are a downfall....See Moregraywings123
