Short-growing roses for zone 10?
Comments (9)Maybe you should consider some mini roses--like Green Ice (a white with a hint of greenish overtones in certain temperature)--the blooms are small but prolific. The plant itself grows about 1.5 to 2 ft tall and spreads out about 2 ft. It is highly disease-resistant and blooms most of the summer. It is a very nice smaller rose. Of consider Little Sunset --I got mine at Palatine Nursery (Canada). I've only had it 2 years now, but it is spreading like crazy and putting out buds all over. Sunset colors--quite dramatic. So far, has had almost no BS problems. If by smaller you mean normal size blooms on--let's say--a 3 ft bush, then try Austin's Pretty Jessica (pink). Or try a floribunda called Easter Basket. Or Austin's Munstead Wood --mine is new, but it is supposed to get 2-3 ft tall--has gorgeous and dramatic dark red-purple blooms--supposed to have good disease-resistance--I sure hope so, cuz I'm really liking my new Munstead Wood. That should get you started. Kate...See MoreWhich of these Old Garden Roses (OGR) sucker or spread?
Comments (8)"Rock roses", family Cistaceae, despite the common name, are not roses and not even that closely related, classified taxonomically as being in order Malvales, not Rosales. They are relatively short-lived shrubs (especially if there is much summer moisture) and they do not sucker. My Autumn Damask did sucker a little, but I wouldn't say it ran amok or was invasive. Some of my Portlands sucker (Rose du Roi of commerce, for one), but my Marchesa Boccella (also considered a Portland) hasn't done so yet, after 5 years. The hybrid perpetuals I have do put up canes a bit away from the base, but the expansion is very constrained, not what I call invasive (especially compared to my Gallicas and the Alba, Sappho, which are very much so). "Old Blush" -- nope....See MoreYour best short landscape rose? What about Drift roses?

Comments (1)I have Red Drift in front of my mailbox since it stays low, and on both sides I have Red Sunblaze. It's a minature, but not like most of my minis. It is also by Meilland and for me has been very disease resistant (this is their 3rd year) and have only gotten to be about 1.5-2 ft tall so far. Also, their blooms stay for close to a week for me. Here is a link that might be useful: Red Sunblaze...See Moredianela7analabama
