It's too late for a pocket door - it's already been drywalled and textured, with a light switch installed on the wall where the pocket would go. If you google space saving pivot door, you'll see what I mean. Allison, I can’t help you with the framing part but it looks like your situation is similar to my office dilema. Maybe this post will give you ideas. I have a converted sitting room to office that I needed doors to cover a 60 inch opening. I couldn‘t do a pocket door due to the walls being finished and electrical in Them. I didn’t want two French doors swinging INTO the room and taking up precious floor space. I settled on french doors hung up on a barn door track. I don’t care that barn doors are ”going out of style”, I love them. We mounted them inside my office as they would be open most of the time. And closed during conf calls. We chose glass because my husbands office which is next door to mine has French doors and we wanted to be consistent. I dealt with the issue of the 1” gap between the trim and the door by adding a combinEd two pieces of molding to sit in the outsides of the doors to meet up with the door trim -and ended up with a 1/8-1/4“ gap. Essentially I added trim to the outside of the door. You can’t see it from the hallway, and from the office it just looks like a 1/2” trim piece. I added trim above the door (to decrease the height of the opening) to hide the rolling bar from the hallway. And I added floor guides to keep the doors snug to the wall where I want them without scratching the trim or the door. These pictures are a few weeks old and don’t show the finished install, but gives you an idea of the Work in progress. I can’t post current ones as I’m enameling the cabinetry at the moment. My advice to you is to keep looking and doing research for a barn door solution that works for you, if that is what you want. We scheduled our handy man to come out and install the doors, but he is booked out til August. So my husband and I hung them ourselves a few weeks ago ((work in progress- you can see in the pic the electrical switches on the wall. In this case the door trim gives us enough clearance to slide over them. I found that I can put a 1/2” thick painting to the right of the doors. I place the white cabinet a few inches from the wall, in front of the left door As I needed the space and makes use of the wall. The left door is able to snuggly slide behind it. )) It took several hours, but w patience and lots of double checking math, it worked for us.

So my contractor suggested if I get doors with this raised piece that I can add something similar to my existing bedroom and closet doors so that I don’t need to buy new ones (only replacing closet) and so they all match. He said I can get custom French doors or even a custom 4.5’ custom for the hallway closet if I want it and just leave the bifold in the bedroom (bc of it’s proximity to our bed and my husbands desire to see all his clothes at once which gets rid of sliding doors). Seems like it might be our best plan. I’m wondering if anyone has had success with adding those DIY after the fact.

I like the ideas! Keeping the plumbing in the same place is always the least expensive way to go, but no matter what, it's going to be a $30K remodel if you are buying a tub and creating a new shower, vanity, etc. So putting in a pocket door will not add that much if you're going that route. I have a situation now where I have a linen closet door and bathroom door opening as your drawing. They are always banging into each other and the doorknobs get tangled up together because I leave the linen closet door ajar because the cat likes to sleep in there. I'm changing it to a pocket door and linen cabinets. The foot print is smaller for a tall cabinet and for me, a lot more functional although Kitty will have to find a new place to sleep. I'm actually using a tall kitchen pantry cabinet as it already has roll out shelves. But it does add to the cost, $4K. The closet is just framing, drywall, shelves and a door. Probably less expensive than $K. Take your time, find someone who knows the building code and keep playing with your plan.
