Asparagus - how many stalks should be left to grow wil
Comments (7)The stalks are(were) very good size. some of them bigger than the ones they sell in the store. I thought I should let the first one grow into fern so it feeds the later ones but reading your post, I realize I was wrong. This morning I saw another one that was the size of a pencil - pretty thin compared to the ones that came out last month but I cut it off and ate it and it was delicious. I think I will do what you suggested forpityssake and cut down the grown fern. They are the largest I have seen. More than 5 feet tall and still growing. My asparagus plants are righgt next to compost area and gets mostly indirect sun because of the fence on two sides except during summer it gets may be 2 hours of direct sun....See MoreCedarGroveCompost: how close to tree trunks? how big diameter?
Comments (3)Coarse bark is less effective for weed suppression than fine bark at an equal depth. OTOH, fine ground Hemlock bark will sometimes shed water when packed over time unless a texture is put on it. I have even poked holes in it with a pitch fork to allow water to seep into the ground. That's was when I was doing yard makeovers and new construction. Appropriate groundcovers should be planted and occasionally top dressed with compost to do the work of just a straight mulch. I prefer woodchips in my own garden. The price is right, and it looks more 'organic' than sterile looking bark. In a few cases I put down wood chips for a customer and then top dressed with bark for a more refined look. A bit more labor intensive, but the final product turns out looking nice....See Morehow many pendants?
Comments (3)well the reason I ask is spec'd in my plans are 2 and I was wondering if there was some rule of them for how many looks best. all the lights I have seen that I like are about 7" so I think I'll be fine with 2 then. thanks for the help!...See MoreWhat style is our new house, and how should we decorate?
Comments (26)Kaya the thing that turns Farmhouse or Modern Farmhouse into Industrial Farmhouse are components like heavier metals, metal trimmed out furniture with rivets, heavy beams, pulleys or industrial style wheels on furniture factory style light fixtures (your island pendents) etc. The term can be thought of this way. It is basically an old factory that is turned into housing but farm style added. If that makes sense. Exposed brick can be one, but this goes with several decor styles so I wouldnt want you to think , I love exposed brick that means I like industrial. I may not be describing this well so I googled definition and they say what I am but better LOL "Industrial farmhouse style combines comfortable and welcoming farmhouseatmosphere with the edgy, rugged lines of industrial style. Traditional industrial style is based on the concept of living in a factory or warehouse setting—picture a modernloft apartment in a big city." Some photos here rivets on hood, barn door, metal pendents, barstools, weathered island here exposed air ducts, island, lighting, windows and painted brick walls here metal and exposed beams, weathered brick wall, concrete island Here hood, weathered walls, heavy beamed island here weathered beams, metal trimmed weathered island, pendents, weathered flooring Hope this helps...See Moremeyersongl
