Stanton stair runner

Hi everyone,

i was wondering if anyone has installed a Stanton carpet staircase runner on the modern side? I found two that I love but not sure what they would look like. One is the pulse from the relax series and the other is from the tide line, fairwater. Our house has an open concept with lazy calacatta quartz counters and is gray with white trim. Floors are dark wood. I would love to see a pic if you have one. Are there any other suggestions?

I love that rug too. I'd go for it. If the patterns don't match up, you can always return them to the store (even if it's an online purchase). I'm wondering about the canvas backing though. That might make it slippery? Maybe you want to have it professionally installed with a pad? I wonder if a pro would remove the canvas first. My stair runner was installed with staples and a pad. No stair rods. The savings on on not having to buy rods might cover a good portion of the cost to install professionally. cand1781, I showed your pattern to my husband. He said it's not going to line up if you look at each individual step. Being a curved staircase you'd have to square it at the front of each step but the overall affect will look good and he's never had anyone complain (he's world famous for his staircase runners) :) BTW, there is a difference between a runner and carpeted stairs. A runner has to be templated and bound and goes over an existing wood staircase vs installed over a subfloor with stained wood (or tile) on each side of the stair. Is that what you're doing? What he said would work better is a smaller pattern or something with florals and/or vines, but what you're looking at will be fine if it's installed correctly. This is the only picture I have. It's winding but a much smaller pattern (if it even is a pattern). I just happen to be with him one day when he needed to stop by this house and tie in the stair with the landing at the top.

Best solution would be to remove the laminate nosings and replace with a hardwood nosing, and install the carpet runner inset. That would save costs on the nosings- as they are typically 6' long, if you are only installing 6-8" on either side of the carpet runner you could potentially do 4-6 stairs with one piece.

I would not do either, but especially the one on the left.

Stairs are tricky, and anything with a strong pattern can deceive the eye and cause someone to misjudge the edge of the step--especially guests, children, and elderly. The pattern acts as camouflage. Unless a pattern aligns exactly the same on every step, don't do it.

The tan sample on the right is the only one I would consider using because it's low contrast, but I'd need to see it in person first.

The right, not the left. No pattern will usually align perfectly on a curved stair. The smaller the repeat, the better. Even then , you need a very reputable local broadloom store, and their best custom crafter/binder and installer. All preceded by an on site template of your stair.

Your runner is created off site. In PIECES.

Thankfully we are having this done by a company that also handled our gut rehab. I’m more worried about traction as I have a 2 and 4/12 year old. Our old house had the thick monochrome carpet aNd we all took tumbles (minus the 2 who wasn’t born yet) because it was slippery.

It’s going from side to side if that helps. The kids hold on to railings and I don’t want them stepping on the border and slipping.
