I remember that phase. We had toys in every room of the house. They need to be where you are so you can watch them though, so that means you may have to have toys in your living room or kitchen or anywhere else. Hang in there. They'll eventually get old enough so that you can say "no toys in the living room" when you need to keep it clean. The good news is, with twins they will soon be content to stay back in their bedroom and play with each other. My twins are 10 now and didn't cling to my pant leg for nearly as long as their older sisters. They're so much more independent. We have a walk-in toy closet now with shelving all the way up. I keep toys with lots of pieces (like legos) up high so they have to ask to play with them, that way I can make sure they have the last thing put away first. I never thought I would be able to get my kids to stick to a one-thing-at-a-time rule but I did somehow. We have toys sorted in tubs and they've learned that they have to put away one tub to get out another. It doesn't work perfectly but I can walk across their bedroom floor MOST of the time. lol When my twins were toddlers, I just had a couple of big laundry baskets to keep toys in that were in the living room. They're light and easy to carry room-to-room and easy to carry back to their bedroom. I need better storage though. Wish we had an ikea store here. I'm always reading about things people have found there.

Funny this thread popped back up! Ever since I commented on it I had been debating on ordering those bins from land of nod. I looked in to the ones from the company store, and they are cheaper. The company store also has sales. The difference though is that the ones from land of nod come with hardware to mount them to the wall. I was just about ready to order them. I had sample chips of the colors and had navy blue picked out. Then I came across this ridiculously long farm work table thing on ebay.... It was close to my house and the price was right. I also like that it can stay when he grows up and I can put other things on it someday. I just have to find some bins now and get my son to start cleaning up with me. He has just started doing that. I like the canvas box type things shown above, but it seems like kids can't see in them too well. That isn't a problem? I thought I would need either plastic bins or bins that have a lower front so it is more obvious what is inside. For now I have been just stacking his toys on the shelves and on the floor underneath.

Ebse, the den is a must-have. I actually didn't care if the house I found had a formal dining room if there was an eat-in kitchen, or if it didn't have a den and had a dining room I could convert to a den, I just wanted a den. The den is too big to lose to being more kitchen, it's 15x16 if I remember correctly. It's going to be just the two of us, and this one of us is usually banned from the kitchen when it comes to the cooking, so we really don't need so a huge kitchen, just more cabinets and draw space for much needed "stuff" eandhl, I'd consider it an eat-in kitchen - the people have that oblong table and hutch. I have a table that seats 6 now, but would definitely get rid of it and have something small for just the two of us which I could open up with a leaf for 3-4 people. Since there's a formal dining room, any more than 4 people, we can eat in there. I may take my hutch with me, have too many collectibles in there not to have it, but then again, I could put that in the dining room and just have a table in the kitchen. diwoman1, the laundry room is very small, the washer dryer on that one wall, on the wall opposite from them, to the right of the door opening going in to the laudnry room, there's a tall bank of cabinets - good for storage/pantry if needed. On the two other walls, there's one window and the other wall is actually the door, leading to the garage. Within the garage is a storage room. I thought maybe I could put the washer/dryer in there, but it really doesn't help me much as that laundry room wouldn't work for much more than a pantry, or mudroom. I was thinking about trying to get a stacking washer/dryer and put it on the right side, and make a bench/coat rack on the left. Fori, the cabinets are just old wood cabinets that she's repainted. I even thought about refacing instead of replacing if possible. The kitchen isn't bad at all, I can definitely live with it for a while, but it's not "me" and I really want to update it, but it's livable the way it is now, at least for the time being. I will actually have the luxury of doing what I need to do before we totally move in - this is if we are lucky enough to get the house. It will be a slow move - DH has to get a transfer, so he'll stay here while I start moving stuff up there. I'll probably tackle the master bathroom first, out of the 4 areas I want to update, that's going to be the one that bothers me the most - this will be second - and besides, the bathroom is soooo tiny, it will be easier and faster to do that one first, or so I hope. Originally I had the rack, now use them on shelves in the closet. They come in different sizes. I have about a dozen of them, each for a different supply: edging lace, insertion lace, embroidery floss, Swiss embroidery, UFOs, etc. The lids keep the dust out. That way, she can pull the bin she needs for a project. The rest stay neatly stored away, so the dining table can be ready in minutes.
