With the information given, I'm unsure what happened to the tree, but... "Last year we started up with a tree service that does insect sprays and root injection fertilizing." Sounds like possibly a real racket! Insects aren't usually a problem for healthy trees. What kinds of insect problems have you had? As for the fertilizing, what nutrients was your soil missing? Applying the needed nutrients to the surface would probably be much more effective than the injection method. I could be wrong, but it sounds like they saw you coming!

Did your white one recover in the spring? I planted three new apple trees this year and the leaves curled and then dried out at the end of aug\sept. Upon further investigation I noticed I have a green caterpillar and webbing with black eggs? I sprayed!!!!! I either had hundreds of the caterpillars or they are very busy to destroy as many leaves as they did. It was quite literally fine one day and then three days later all dried out.

(The link is right above the messeges on the regular MAG Forum page.) It'll be May 14 this year. - Don't be shy about coming to the swap, even if you're "plant-poor" with little to trade this year. Many of us have major surpluses of certain plants; (you DO want some strawberry plants from my garden, right? They make a great "living mulch" underbedding around taller perennials, and i will have a hundred or more surplus in spring.) - Also, you could just start up extra seedlings specifically for swapping. The easiest method is to make lots of cheapie pots (i use plastic yogurt containers with drainage holes punched in the garden), sink 'em in the bed and seed them along with the rest of the garden. Then, come swap-time, just lift 'em out, wipe of the dirt, and they're ready to got, with no potting up! - Or, just bring something for the potluck picnic which follows the swap. Great folk, great food, great plants. But be prepaired to bring home plants you never knew you needed! - Cecilia, yes, i have tries airrooting, but haven't succeeded yet. i've had a bit of success rooting OTHER lilacs from cuttings (thanks, Rita!), just not this plant. i think it may just be gettting very old and no longer be vigerous enough. I have lived in Las Vegas for 40 years The reason why they sell flowers in local Las Vegas hardware stores and grocery stores and Sam's club etc etc it's because they don't care if they'll put out whatever the warehouse sends... if it dies how many people will actually save the receipt and original container that you purchased it in.. and return it as long as it's been within the time frame that they accept the plant back there are really really weird out here about stuff like that... They sell fuchsia plants and gardenias I have tied both on a more than few occasions.. THEY DO NOT GROW HAIR AND I AM A GOOD GARDENER.. I CAN GROW JUST ABOUT ANYTHING BUT THOSE PLANTS I STAY AWAY FROM along with the raspberry blackberry boysenberry etc plants they try to sell out here and they sell..In the end they die because it's so freaking hot out here in the summer everything dies some come back some don't.. Now tomatoes do well out here if you plant in February... Don't forget we get no rain Zippo we went over 200 days last year in 2020 with no rain not even a drop..heat kills everything including your car battery your tires your paint job anything plastic on your car ..everything must be planted in February.. certain plants are pretty little cute and all that stuff .. they sell them out here they don't live oh I forgot it's so dry here the dryness is in your house will kill them ...let alone outside... Remember heat kills everything..pets people if you expose yourself long enough you will die that's how the plants die
