The split is from damage much earlier in the tree's life. In your part of the country, perhaps winter damage. The tree is putting out new wood to cover the wound. Leave it be. The "fungus" is more likely a lichen. If so, not a problem. Just means your region has reasonably good air quality, plus the tree is growing slowly.

If you do that, you're giving permission for malware to be installed on your computer. I suspect that this may have happened when your son was using UTorrent. You should have a talk with him and anyone else that uses your computer to make sure there's no more clicking on stuff like this in the future, or visiting of dubious sites.
