I need advice! What should I do with my knotty pine and brick?
Comments (19)It would be helpful to see pics of the opposite wall with painted white brick and more of the room. Your mirrors & light gray furniture give impression you are craving light. Suggestion: First, clean the paneling well & paint out or replace the fireplace insert black to match other accessories & make it less prominent. Then, decide if the paneling is too dark or wrong color to work with furniture + rest of the house & same with brick. It seems like remaining decisions, e.g. paint paneling or replace with drywall, paint brick or reface, add mantle, add bookshelves, etc. will depend on your budget....See MoreFormer exterior brick wall in shower, what should I do?
Comments (14)"I was just wondering should I be worried about the new studs touching the existing brick wall or should I put something between them." Good thought. Yes, use something between them. With the brick now being an interior wall, I'd just put tar paper between the studs and the brick. Alternatively and not my first choice, but in direct contact you could use pressure treated studs, but I'd recommend only kiln-dried (KDPT). KDPT are drier and more stable than the wet PT. Wet PT may look okay, but they're simply waiting for you to install them and turn your head, then they'll transform into a pretzel shape. lol If that wall was previously an exterior wall, are the studs still load bearing? If so, take proper precautions when altering that wall. If you're doing RedGard as mentioned in the previous comments, consider cement board over the studs, and after proper detailing as needed to the cement board seams, RedGard over that. To provide proper protection, the RedGard has to be properly applied. Usually two coats, with proper thickness. You can assure yourself that you are getting the proper thickness with each coat by using a mil thickness gauge. Maybe a couple dollars at your local store, or $5 on Amazon, etc....See MoreI'll try this again. What should I do with that orange brick?
Comments (39)I limewashed the brick using 1 quart of Romabio Bianco White. Let me tell ya, I used every last bit. A quart should cover 100 sq. feet of brick. I had 87 sq. feet. I really like the limewash because it's not just one solid block of white brick, the kind of look paint would give. The limewashed brick is more variegated. I had planned on spraying off some of the limewash, but after I applied it, I liked the look and just left it "as is." I really like how it turned out. Comments (17)We got Franklin! Yes, I think it would have been nice to have the brick be distinct. If your entire front facade is brick I would go with the smooth look. If you have multiple materials I think the texture would be nice. Just my .02!...See MoreNatual Stone Veneer by ImExWare
