Help! Need a kitchen/fr paint color and I can't decide
Comments (42)Wow- you really are the best. Thank you. You have helped me so much. I am going to the paint store to sample golden tan. And I took the bold step (for me) of asking the painter to take on other work for a week or so until I am certain. I think that alone will make it easier for me to make a choice without the stress of having to do it so quickly. I will let you know what we go with!...See MoreCan't decide between 2 kitchen layouts, please help!
Comments (8)Thanks Aloha -- when I start a new thread I will definitely add that! Have you tested "png" or "gif"? I'll test those as well. [I'm going to start a new soon -- the exising one is around 200 posts and it's getting unwieldy.) Oh, and I think I'll add something about converting PDFs to JPGs for those who only have PDF. Again, thanks -- great addition to the Read Me thread!...See MoreFlip flopper- should I or should I not paint w/ new color? Can't decide
Comments (49)Yknow, IMHO, I wish we all could drop the "D" word from our vocabulary. If we love it , if its well made, if its functional - then a place can be found for it, period. In other words - your china cab is just fine, and it does look good on the side rather than viewed head on. That said of course we like our rooms freshened up now and then - but I think you can jazz it up in other ways incl choosing a new color ILOVE greens/browns/tans, but the pea soup color Im kind of tired of. (or so it looks on my monitor anyway, which has been known to be wrong.) Definitely think about going deeper richer. Dont know if Penny's or Anglo's deep dark colors are good for you but it gives you an idea at least of what deeper/richer could do for you. If all else fails maybe you could just take the living room color and just go a few steps darker/more intense with it. Let the DR be cozy and intimate complete w/ a big china cabinet - why not? The DR should relate well to the LR, and that would be one way of doing it. Minor quibble - I would think about that wall space where the china cab was - is there a third pic that could fit in there? With cabinet moved, that wall becomes very significant. Not liking just the two pics , needs to be 3 I think..... Or some other wall decor or arrangement .... minor thing, so perhaps just wait for the inspiration or right thing to come along....See MoreCan't decide which kitchen appliances to get... Help!
Comments (31)So, you are saying, CR only looks at data that they can easily quantify and compare, but it ignores other information. Don't outright dismiss anecdotes. They are quite useful. Every appliance has bad reviews. In fact, they are usually the first thing that I read. If the reviews don't include bad anecdotes, then you probably haven't found a representative sample set just yet. But there are very real differences in both quantity and quality of negative feedback. Of course, that is difficult to put into a chart. And it is even more difficult to compare between two very distinct products. But that doesn't excuse skipping over this information. A recurring pattern on Houzz is that people complain how CR measures things that are irrelevant and uses testing methodologies that skew the results away from real-life needs. E.g. they didn't tell us if they used the correct size pots for these burners. And given that Wolf and LG have very different burner layouts, it's quite possible that identical pots behave very differently on both appliances. It is possible to correct for this problem, but it takes more effort; and I don't see that CR did that. As a consumer, I need to know all these things. I also need to know if my appliance is going to be difficult to use. I need to know if it is difficult to clean. I need to know if it is likely to break at the end of the warranty period. I need to know if customer service is reliable. I need to know if people are generally happy with their appliance years later. I need to know whether it easily lends itself towards the type of cooking that I do. And yes, I also need to know the simple measurements that CR took. But that's only part of the bigger picture....See MoreAClue
