Comments (33)Thanks again for all of your compliments! It really is nice to hear! The kitchen is holding up very well. I think a lot of it has to do with the beautiful finish on the cabinets. The cabinet maker "baked" on the paint, I believe. Whatever he did, "it's like butter!" So, when I see a spot, I can easily wipe it off. I love having all six stools, and would recommend getting as many as you can around your island. Everyone hangs out in the kitchen. The rugs are dash and albert and I do like them. However, even with a rug pad, they move around some. It's not a big deal, but be aware of that if you are considering buying them. Also, mine look pretty dirty right now. My understanding is that I can take them outside and hose/scrub them down and they will be as good as new. I haven't done that yet, but plan to very soon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks again!...See Moreupdating kitchen - honey oak cathedral style kitchen cabinets
Comments (9)Thanks for the comments everyone. I need to stop over and get better pics. Were moving into the house but aren't going to do anything to the cabinets so I'm really looking for accessory suggestions on how to distract and have a more updated feel. We are changing the counter tops but they not in. Were going with a lighter cream or white granite with darker veins. The floor is a very light tan. Basically I'm imagining my kitchen will look like a traditional kitchen ppl usually do in a flip home. I don't want that but can't really change anything aside from accessories and other furniture that might give the room a more updated feel. As mentioned the walls are Parisian taupe. I feel like it's going to just be too yellow/tan feeling in the end. What kind of light fixtures, kitchen tables, colors, rugs, etc would help update honey oak cathedral cabinets with a lighter granite counter top and light tiled floor with Parisian taupe walls for example I found these ideas on Pinterest....See MoreTerrible kitchen before and after: White, pickled oak, and turquoise!
Comments (23)Thanks everyone! It's so fun to finally be able to share this. A couple things I left out of my post up top: The old kitchen was in that set up when we bought the house (minus the sideboard and Ikea table in the back, which we bought). We lived with that for 18 years. Eighteen years!!! I hated that kitchen so much that I didn't even care about damage. My mom burned the laminate once by putting a hot pan right on it, and I was like "whatever. It's ugly already." Sometimes I cut vegetables right on the laminate b/c I just didn't care. As to the light and clean lines in the new kitchen, I am enjoying that sooo much. I surprised myself in the planning process because I didn't expect to be so drawn to white and light wood. I am usually a dark wood person. But I think being in such a cramped space with poor lighting for so long (even though the tiles, cabs, and floor were light) really made me crave simplicity and openness. Mama goose, I had meant to mention the pull-down table before. We ended up not doing it because the designer squeezed in that little counter at the back of the room, and I realized that we could have shallow cabinets that protruded on the interior wall (just not a huge fridge). And it turned out that we couldn't recess anything on that interior wall because of the vent stack. :( Also want to thank Anglophilia for her consistent recommendation of Glacier White Corian. And is CPartist gone now? I can't remember specifically what we talked about, but I know she was involved at some point too....See MoreDyan Weis
