Comments (11)Thanks for the responses. I agree, kathyga, that just a valance would not be right for these windows. I really think side panels would look great, but also need something for light control. So do I really need to worry that much about hiding the pleated shades? If I choose a color in the tan family, maybe they won't be too noticeable when they're raised all the way up. I did consider woven shades, annie1971, but don't want the cords hanging down when the shades are at the top. I also think with the size of the windows, the bulk at the top would be too much. Pleated shades or cellular shades would compact to just a few inches. So it all boils down to this. I want cellular shades because I can get them cordless and I think side panels would look nice, but can I use the two of them together without anything across the top????? Thanks!!!!...See MoreAdvice Needed on Window Treatments for a Bay Window
Comments (6)I have a very similar window in my family room but, since it faces the woods, I leave it free of treatments and hang my sculpture pieces in it. I do have an idea though. Get regular drapes for each side and add a valence across the middle. You can place them higher on the wall than the window frame but not so high as to allow the top of a shade to show. When I did mine in my bedroom I did just that and then added duette fabric blinds that matched the drapes in color and also a room darkening shade on a rod that jutted out a bit more. That way, during the day I raise the shade and the fabric blind gets raised half way. In the evening I pull down both of them. You need to use a rod for the valence and drapery that extends out far enough to compensate for the two treatments that will be under the valence. Have I made that too complicated? It's actually very easy and I found it to be the most reasonable way. I bought the curtains at Country Curtain and the darkening shades and fabric blinds at Lowes....See MoreLooking for advice on type of window treatment
Comments (9)Bare windows? Whatever you prefer and whether you think you need a shade in addition to functional curtains. I wouldn't want both, but I don't have any window coverings at all (except in one bathroom), so am not the best person to say. I love looking out my windows, so the drapes would only be pulled if I thought someone could see me sleeping or dressing, etc. I've lived and slept for 45 years with bare windows in the bedroom. You really do get used to sleeping when it's light out....See MoreNeed advice on window treatments for big girl room
Comments (14)@millworkman And what I'm saying is that it already is in the more general forum as well, so you don't need to direct traffic. Just reply or don't. Plantation shutters can be nice, but honestly, most people end up leaving them closed and lose both light and view. I prefer an accordian blind, and these days you can get them cheaply in the bottom-up top-down conformation, which allows you to leave them open for light even when privacy is needed.Otherwise, the venitian blinds are just fine, and replace the valence with something a bit more mature looking, or add a sheer that can be pulled to one side....See Morekaokeefe75
