Oh my gosh nhbaskets, I will be in your husband's position (no pun intended) tomorrow morning. A little black coffee and a jello cup for my breakfast today. Then at 2pm, the prep begins. :( :( :(

Thank you all for the well wishes. Love this community. Back home with DH. Things went well. They removed 2 polyps. Hopefully, those will be nothing. Needs to have both done again in 2 years. DH is sleeping and I'm trying to stay awake and do some work. At least the sun is shining!

Clock Tower -University of Texas campus

Well, a b ...

would one suppose that such a majestic clock tower might indicate a strong emphasis on "time" at the University of Texas?

If such were the case, might one wonder whether the students there might refer to their years there as "doing time"?

The sad thing about UT Clock Tower is that Charles Whitman placed himself there in the summer of 1966 and shot at many people (more than a dozen died).It is a really neat building, but its history has some bad vibes.

The clock tower does have that history. A lot of buildings have some undesirable history. The campus is alive and well. The tower is a very visible landmark on campus.

Sad to hear of the troubling history of that tower, folks who have a feeling of appreciation for and loyalty to the U of T.

Adellabella, I used to work in that building, in the main library at UT, and that was the first job I had after graduating from Rice. Since I had taken a year of Russian, I got hired to help catalog a Slavic literature collection, and anyone unfamiliar with the Cyrillic alphabet would be unable to read the title pages of the books. I lived about four blocks from the tower (on 24½ Street), and so I could walk to work. I only worked four days a week, and so I would hitchhike to Houston for the week-ends, since nightlife in Austin was much inferior back in those days. This was in 1973. When my job ended (due to exhaustion of funds for the projects) in August 1973, I moved to San Francisco and started a new career as a fashion designer.

Lars, I moved to California Street in San Francisco in the Richmond in the late fall of 1973. We could have passed each other on the street. I lived there until July 1984. I also lived on Funston, Page, Ashbury and Cortland. Good times.

Lars, hard to believe Austin didn't have much of a nightlife. I'm not much into nightlife these days, but there is always something going on. Lots of good food and festivals. I've been to Austin a handful of times. Still lots to explore.
