I have anew gray currently in my bedroom on the walls and alabaster on the trim. I think it would be beautiful to have the trim and perhaps the door also sw anew gray and the walls alabaster. Another look depending on the height of your ceilings, you could paint the ceiling anew gray with alabaster walls.

As we opened the kitchen into the living room by removing a wall, I plan on painting both rooms Light French Grey with Snowbound Trim. the far wall in the living room (opposite the kitchen) Will have a TV and art on it, and I'd like to make it appear to recede and add some drama to the room. We are getting new furniture, and only have chairs on order so far, with sofa decided, but not upholstery, so everything else is flexible, but going for lighter furnishings. I know we should wait to paint, but my husband may divorce me if we don't get paint on the wall. It's been months with patchy walls from our remodel! He works from home and the unfinished walls are driving him crazy

I suggest going a few steps darker than the cabinets. Your dark(er) counter top will be your inspiration. The grain in the wood is quite strong which can be used to your ADVANTAGE! If you water pop your wood, the grain will take on the stain a snick more...thereby giving you the DEPTH of colour you crave WITHOUT going so dark that you remove the light from the room (or the floors). I suggest a mid-tone stain with water popping. I would work a little into the 'green' range as your counter top 'reads' cool tones more than orange tones. Let the GRAIN take a strong stain (water popping) so that you can get all the contrast you desire WITHOUT having to go too dark. Make sure your refinisher offers some colour samples on your floor (must include a coat of finish to show the true depth of the colour...and if you water pop make sure the water popping is done with all the colour samples). Once your samples are down, you can take the time to figure out which stain works BEST in your lighting situation as well as with your counter top.

Almost anything goes with white walls. I think the problem is you don't really know which style you want. You named three in your question. It's not so important to be able to name it, but having some inspiration pictures so that you can convey the look you're after would help. If you haven't already, take some time to compile one or more Ideabooks on Houzz (I do one for each room). Just start saving pictures of rooms you like and indicate what you like about each room in the comment field. After a while some commonalities should start becoming apparent. If not, if you're still all over the place, understand that sometimes one house or one room can't hold all of your good ideas. You will have a more pleasing, coherent end result if you refine your taste. Save some ideas for the next house, or the next time you redecorate. :-) What makes professional decorators'/designers' rooms stand out from non-professionals is the discipline required to achieve an intentional look.
