Need to see pics of living room about 20' x 22'
Comments (35)It would never occur to me, upon entering someone's home, to think negatively if I saw a back of a sofa. Anyway.... RE: The TV frame.... I have seen some in person that were very lovely. I wish we could do it to ours, but we can't because the TV is tilted down as much as possible. Because of the angle, a frame would look silly from the side and wouldn't fit on the bottom. If your TV ends up at a high level and needs to be tilted, the frame might not be an option. The examples of frames I've seen were not tilted. There are other setups for TVs over fireplaces with decorative doors that cover the TV. We use our TV often enough that that would be inconvenient.... but it would also be a nice option to hide the TV if you want. I couldn't find a better example than this:...See MoreLiving Room Design Dilemma (17'/23' x 15')
Comments (2)Depends how do you want your room to be perceived. Let me explain - with the L shape the arrangements works well for a cuddling family, not for the inviting friends (from the entrances these sofa's backs do not look remotely inviting. Works for a TV time with family, but not for the guest gathering/conversation thing. You'll have to take into a consideration how much longer your kids will remain cuddly, because in teens years they are rarely sit shoulder to shoulder. 2 Sofas look nice, but don't do sofa sliders - to be able to have a nicer/bigger coffee table (you would need at least 18" between the sofa's edge and the table, and at least 30" between the window and the back of the sofa), 2 facing sofas are not convenient for the TV viewing - unless if it's a sofa per person and a person is laying down. Like how the room is claimed with the 2 facing sofas - much less of the unused floor. You'll need a much bigger rug though to ground the furniture arrangement....See More20x36ft kitchen and living room?
Comments (25)Since you are just thinking about this, why not sketch a 20 x 36 square room on graph paper. Then start putting in your walking aisles and if you want an island in the kitchen, then add an eating area which will have a table probably 42 inches wide and 76 inches long with 6 chairs....the chairs will need three feet behind ALL of them in order to get into and out of the chairs and walk around them to go outside if you have slider/French doors for access to back yard.....then lay out the living room furniture around the fireplace and decide where the TV will go for best viewing; ie. do you want to watch TV from kitchen if you are considering island or bar seating? How big of a sofa do you need to seat your family while watching TV. The sofa generally goes opposite the TV, so where will the sofa and TV be in the room? Will you have room to add a chair or two if you want a recliner/s in the room. Is a cocktail table something you need to hold the remote and put up your feet, or are you going with reclining furniture that requires room in front of and in back of while reclining? Plus you will want lamps and end tables by most of your furniture pieces...how will these fit? When you answer most of these questions, that indicate how you want to live in your space, you will probably answer how big the room should be? As for aisles, you will want 42 inches in kitchen minimum, and 36 inches for hallways and walkways.....we have a 42 inch walkway in our great room and it works. Our great room/ living area has TV area, breakfast table area, and L shape kitchen with a 5 x 7 island that seats 5, 3 on one side, 2 on end and is 16' x 40' and I wish it was 6 feet longer, just so I would have another pair of chairs in the great room......I can sit 6 but would love to seat 8 for family gatherings.....just sayin'. Comments (14)Do you have another eating area besides the dining room and the island? If so how many can you seat there? Also of that is the case how do you intend to use the dining room. If it is only occasionally as in rarely then a smaller room would be ok, but if it is once a week and you’d have 8 people once a week then it might bug you more. If it is rarely and just a few times a year then I’d also consider doing away with it if you have another eating area and use this dining to enlarge the kitchen/ pantry and the other dining area....See MoreRelated Professionals
