Some thoughts-- Could you hang a small cabinet or place shelves above the toilet for storage? It looks like you are storing paper towels and toilet paper under the countertop. Perhaps the recycling could be moved to the garage. How about a curtain hung in front of the toilet? If you have children, they probably won't pull it closed, but they are also unlikely to close a door. My washer and dryer are front loaders under a countertop which can be used for folding. Some people seem to love that, others not. Just a thought. . . I would then extend the countertop for folding to include the sink so that you have one long surface. Since you moved the storage, laundry baskets could be stored under the countertop. By putting a shelf the depth of the countertop under the countertop halfway up from the floor, you will have room for more laundry baskets. A rod could extend from the side of the cabinets (or shelving unit, see below) above the countertop to the back wall, depending on how long the pants and skirts you would like to hang are. Mine fit above my countertop, but I'm not very tall, either. If you are tall, maybe you could hang the rod higher. New door? A pocket door. A step ladder could then be hung on the wall where the door currently swings. In fact, that would open the entire wall up for whatever you would like. The space is fairly narrow with the washer and dryer on the opposite wall, but the wall could be used to hang things. For a landing pad, you could use part of the countertop or mount hooks for keys, purse, etc. on the wall. It just depends on what you would like to use the landing pad for. OR, you don't say what you use the cabinets over the washer and dryer for. I'm guessing laundry detergent, etc., but there is quite a lot of storage space there. Raise the upper cabinet to the ceiling and you will have room for a shelf underneath which could suffice for a landing pad. Depending on what you are storing, replace the cabinet with shelving. I don't really see an option for a drying rack on the floor. I hang just about everything that doesn't need to dry flat. If it does need to dry flat, I use the countertop. By using skirt hangers with clips as well as regular plastic hangers, I can hang just about anything other than sweaters which must dry flat to avoid stretching. The hangers used for drying are stored on the hanging rod. Good luck!

Many of those types of cabinets separate easily--mine has cast iron braces to hold the top on the base, so separating them to use in the same space is no big deal, IMO, and removing a door is a good solution, if you want to use the two pieces in the same room. I'd save the door, and all hardware, and keep it nearby, in case you want to restore the cabinets. The 'top only' piece makes that a moot point, so I'd choose it, and the other cabinet which most closely matches, and would be most suitable for a desk. I like option #2. You can replace the glass panels to match one or the other, and keep the originals with the door and hardware. My cabinet has replacement glass panels, done by my sister before she gave me the cabinet. ETA, as for height, you can get a wooden island stool, and cut the legs down to the correct height for the countertop. We did that once with two matching stools, when toddlers needed an interim chair height between high chair and regular chair.

The birds are very tiny - 60 - 150 grams. All of them could fit in a tiny sink for a bath together. The biggest one actually comes in the shower with me. :) That cracked me up! Don't worry about an ironing board if you don't iron. I will also be using the laundry for storing and preparing food dishes for my little guys. Do you have a list of everything you would like to store in the laundry room and BP? That would help define the spaces. We added a pullout to our pantry for laundry bins (and also water and power hookups for eventual washer and dryer on main level) as well as pull out file cabinets too. Have you considered storage for paper towels for quick cleanup? (Lots of neat pull out solutions on GW). I actually like our cabinets and trim colors better in the pantry than in the kitchen; ceilings are just shy of 8 feet, well lit with overhead cans and under cabinet lighting. Storing your countertop appliances in the BP absolutely seems like the right thing, unless it's less functional to do so. If this is your forever house, focus on what you would like and your vision for the space. Functionality and form!

I'd still be concerned about your mother and a walker in the bathroom. How much room is there between the shower and the toilet? Plus where will grab bars go? There's so much extra room around the space that you'll need to put in floor grab bars which are a heck of a lot uglier than coming in and seeing a toilet. I do agree about the doorway into the guest room. However I don't like where she placed it because now you are limited where you can put the bed and I think the solution is worse. The width of the bedroom is 10'8" or 128" wide. Putting the bed between the wall and the closet on the window side (so the foot of the bed faces the entry door), means you now only have 68" of space if you use a queen sized bed. (A queen mattress is 60" wide) So that means now your mother only has 34" of walking space. Not even a full 3" on either side of the bed. If there's a bed frame, then it's even less. If you place the bed on the left wall you only have 126" and you need 3' for the door swing. So now whoever is on the window side of the room has even less space to move around. So while it solves the problem of the two doors, it really creates another problem because of the bed. By keeping all doors on one side, and keeping the original size of the bedroom, the bed can be placed between the windows because the original room width was 11' or 132". That gives a full 3' on each side of the bed. Also note that clothes don't turn corners in closets. That's the reason I left that area blank. It can be hanging for things like ties or belts, etc.
