Turn the table so the short end is against the wall beneath the window. Can you now fit two chairs on each side? Looks like you might have space. Is that a dishwasher or a refrigerator next to the table? I think you might put up some shelving, and have nothing on your countertops but the coffeemaker and possibly the kettle, if you use it everyday. Assuming you are not in the US, so I am not too familiar with this kind of layout, but it looks very efficient!

I tried to do like you suggested but it's quite tight and not comfortable to go through narrow space. Here how it looks like. Unfortunately it's Germany that why layout for kitchen is so small and strange -_-. It's a dishwasher there. Refrigerator is build in the kitchen. It's also not super comfortable to open dishwasher when chair or table is staying there.

I dont see any outlets for the kettle and coffee on the counter area is there another plug somewhere? Im thinking, that dead space next to the water heater could put a little cart there, really only lose the bottom cabinet, but essentially something on wheels could be moved out to the way to access it.

Here is an example of a small cart that could be made to use for the coffee station next to water heater.

Also, for the eating area, they make portable islands which have storage for the stools within them. I would seak out an oval shape. Then you could add two additional chairs with backs for common use and when needed you could pull it 'round for more seating? some have drop leaves which would allow you to expand it.

Those mock up just now I dont believe will be functional as there is no real way to skirt around the chairs, it would be very tight feeling. I think the objective would be to move t oval or round table. A drop leaf would be ideal.

Not sure if there is enough room, but I wonder if a narrow shelf (or table?) along the wall opposite the counter could be used to hold the coffee maker and kettle?

Unfortunately door cannot be removed because it's a rental apartment.

Near the water heater is only 25 cm space which can be fine for coffee machine and kettle but there is no plug anywhere near.

I really like the idea of hiding chairs when they are not needed inside the table!

There are plugs. But not on the left near the water heater. Only 4 (2 from both sides of the window) near the floor and 2 right on the table near the fridge (I think exactly for coffeemachine and kettle) but then there is no working space in the kitchen.

This is going to sound stupid, but what if you changed the way you worked in the kitchen? Use a rack and mount it on the wall by the heater. Then, hang your cookware and whatever you can move off the counter onto the rack. Move the coffee machine to the counter left of the stove, next to the outlet. Do you use the electric kettle everyday? Maybe use one that doesn't need to be plugged in and keep it on the stovetop and store the electric one. Can you do away with that drying rack and hand dry the dishes, putting them away and use that space for food prep? You could put a large cutting board there. Sometimes what works in one place doesn't in the new one and you have to approach the space differently. Like I said, these suggestions may be way off the track.

Just curious why cant you set the coffee and kettle on top of the dishwasher?

Also I still think you should get a little cart for that spot by the heater, you could use it as workspace and portable storage.

dishwasher is a bit narrow for both kettle and coffee machine. I was thinking about using a bar table instead of full table and a kitchen island for additional storage/cutting place + place for kettle and coffee machine.

Ok well, no one said the kettle and the coffee had to be next to each other. put one on the dishwasher and one on the counter.

Eating in a long row is really not conducive to the whole idea of family dining. Is there anyway you could do a shorter table and do 2 chairs on one side and then one chair on either end of the table?

Even tho it is a rental, you should be able to pop the hinge pins out of that door in about 3 seconds. Put them in a bag, tape them to the door to be re-installed when you move, then slide the door under a bed or couch. We took our doors off and were so amazed at how much it opened things up.

Because that is the only place to eat, I don't like the idea of the bar table.

A family is supposed to look at each other and have a proper conversation.

You don't have space for additional pieces of furniture.

I would suggest that you think vertically.

I would purchase a kitchen cabinet or two for additional storage and put them on the wall over the dishwasher and to the right of it and when and if you move, just take them down and plaster the nail holes in the wall and paint over it.

In addition, you can put up some shelves to the right of it.

Also, but the planks and cut several small shelves and put them up on each side of the window.

You can get a lot of extra storage that way.

On those small shelves on either side of the window you can put small things that are somewhat attractive, and clear all the things off of your counters that honestly just look like clutter.

You don't need to apologize for your small kitchen.

A lot of apartments in the U.S. have kitchens even smaller than yours.

You can put up a shelf under one of the storage cabinets you buy, and on that shelf is where you can put your coffee maker and your kettle.

Buy an electric power strip with a power surge protector and affix it to the underside of the shelf, and figure out how to run the power with an extension cord safely from the shelf to the power strip.

Also, if you need more storage space, get a pot rack that you can hang from the ceiling.

if you don't know how to do that safely, get a handy man. Those small holes will also get patched up when you move. It's not any different than covering over a nail hole from hanging a picture.

There are many different types of hanging pot racks, large and small.

Also, you can think of ways to store things so they are not visible, like this:

You might want to get a hook so you can hang up your dish rack on your cabinet.

That will stimulate you to put your dishes away right away, so you will have more clean counter space on which to work.

I have a drying rack that folds up so I can fold it and really get it out of the way.

IKEA makes a great metal wall rack system with all sorts of pieces that you yourself select that is infinitely modifiable to suit your needs that will let you put in all the things you have on your counter, so they will be at your fingertips when you need them, yet not cluttering up your space.

Really, you will feel like you have lost 20 pounds, without the work of going on a diet!

You can also mount a pegboard on the wall next to the refrigerator and hang things on that.

Really, these things don't have to be expensive, for the containers in the above photo, you can use an empty can that you have washed clean and poke two holes in the back( and smooth them flat first) and tie it on to the pegboard with something like a zipties, or a strong thick cord.

It is fun to see how ingenious you can be in discovering ways to store things in limited space.

Guys I think you are totally right about a table instead of bar table.

I put a small ikea table and 4 chairs fit quite good there. Kettle is on the dishwasher now and coffee machine on the left of the stove. There is still not a lot of place to cut stuff but I think we can live with it.
