narrow livingroom. Trying to place furniture, need help.
Comments (10)In retrospect I should have posted a photo with tv pushed back against the fireplace wall, it doesn't look nearly as intimidating and large then. The problem with the small grouping in front of the fireplace is that the fireplace is halfway into the livingroom so the chair facing the window in the diagram above from Rawket Grl, would actually be sitting directly in front of the fireplace. And FYI there are 10 stockings hanging over the fireplace and there will be 10 of us when we get together over the holidays. As it is now, I realize we should have thought a little more before installing the tv over the fireplace but wanted to be able to see it from all points on the main floor, from the seating area and also when I am cooking at the other end in the kitchen. We don't really want to move it now since we installed the cables for it and the wallmount around the barnwood fireplace surround, so will have to deal with that aspect. I loved the suggestions though, with the smaller scale furniture and will certainly be shopping in the near future! Luckily we hadn't purchased any furniture for the basement recreation room, so this sectional will fit nicely down there! Comments (4)I can't imagine how hectic and difficult it must be trying to move under the current circumstances. You have plenty of space to seat probably up to 8 people. What furniture are you bringing into the space? The built-ins seem to be in a bit of an odd spot. The most logical place for the t.v. seems to be to the left of the fireplace. You could wall mount it with a console underneath. Then add two chairs, facing the wall the built-ins are on, and a sofa facing the fireplace and t.v. You'll want an area rug for comfort and to ground the seating area. You could add another chair to the right of the fireplace with a floor lamp to make a cozy reading spot by the built-ins. Add books and decor but don't forget to leave some empty space on the shelves. Add a great piece of art over the mantle. I would add a long rod with curtains across the wall with the windows and double door for privacy at night, along with some woven wood shades for the windows. That back corner could be a good place for a game table with a couple of chairs. Is there room for an entry table before you pass through the columns?...See MoreI need advice on buying and placing furniture
Comments (6)Avoid loveseats at all costs! They typically seat one person unless you have a courting couple in the home. They are the bane of good arrangements and are the fly in the ointment on so many of the dilemmas here at Houzz. The non-upholstered furniture and your accessories/decor look like you're going for rustic farmhouse/converted barn style. The yellow slipper chairs will certainly be misfits if you're going that direction. Perhaps use them in bedrooms, for putting on shoes, which is how they came to be named. How many people use this room daily and what do they do here? How often do you entertain others, and how much seating do you need for those occasions?...See MoreKicksychick
