Hollow cactus issues?

Shayla Losinski

So I have this cactus that had been gifted to me and recently it just collapsed over, I instantly looked up what I could do, and had figured that it was suffering from over watering so I was going to go and cut of the dead ends to allow it to heal to be replanted when I noticed it was hollow, I'm not overly sure why it's like this or if it's even hollow all the way through, also there seems to be something, either from the catcus it's self or foreign diseases or issue inside of it. I have never seen this before and I am greatly concerned! As of now I went a head and preped it so that it could work and heal but I am now very unsure if that will help. Any help on this baffling issues would be wonderful!
This cactus is a cactus strawflower, bristle brush/mammillaria pilcayensis
(Not sure how to post pictures but will try to get some up)
