Help - Exterior Paint color needed for Brown Roof - Brown window

Hi All,

My house needs exterior painting and I am overwhelmed making this decision. The brown roof + brown windows and diff surface on two levels is making this difficult and I would really appreciate some advice as this is a costly endeavour. I would prefer to just paint the second story but I am open to doing both levels if needed.

I’d reverse the color scheme. Light trim and eaves. Add some trim to the bottom windows. And if you aren’t afraid of color, I’d pop the front door with maybe something in the coral/pink to orange range.

Thank you so much Nancy for goint to this effort. I really like the idea of darker on the bottom and adding trim to the lower windows. The front door does need to pop!

The closest BM match to Mellow Grain would be Dunmore Cream if that helps you to visualize it. Here is the reason that I wouls prefer to not live in the "Red House"-it may not apply to your environs. Our area is mostly new construction in subdivisions-most of the homes are no more than 10 years old, and our particular neighborhood didn't break ground until 2005. For resale it seems to be best to paint the home a color that blends well and fits in with the surrounding homes-the few homeowners who tried something different and then tried to sell ended up selling for less than they should have-in one case a home that the owner had painted a pretty potent blue color was listed for 6 months without an offer, then painted and relisted at a price $15k higher than the original price only to sell in less than a week. I don't really do anything to the outside of my home without some consideration as to what it might do to my resale potential even though I have no plans to move. The last two homes we bought and sold had less curb appeal when we bought them than when we sold them-we were able to buy them cheaper and sell for more. The first house I ever bought was Pink-PINK. The agent didn't want me to see it but I forced her to show it to me-we stole it and the first thing we did was paint it a creamy yellow. The neighbors all thanked us.

So I did a little paint digitizer magic so you could get a feel for how it would look. I chose a light color for the main body just because it looks like you have a lot of shade. I also found some other schemes with darker paint. Lots of bright white trim seems to be a trend right now but always a classic look.

Gray with darker gray trim or even black trim would look good. What is your budget? Does it allow for a new garage door? I agree with going with the MCM vibe. The gray would probably need to be a warmer gray so it doesn't fight with the brick. What about white body with any color trim you like Gray Pale blue Black So many options, I think a white body will give you more versatility. It allows you to choose a less boring color and use it minimally
