Spring Continues to Unfurl in Alabama (picture heavy)
Comments (22)I hope everyone is getting ready to post pictures of their spring flowers. The tulips the squirrels got into are blooming now and I will take pictures tomorrow. I am very surprised since I did not chill these tulips and they are lovely anyway. Thanks you so much for looking at them. Thanks Jean, your garden is sure to be waking up. And yours Nancy. Rita, I do know you love the Dutch iris too, so I wanted you to know it couldn't be too long. I am surprised that so many tulips are doing so well, but loving it. Kay, Brent and Becky's bulbs have the Come Back tulips. Thank you sharon. Mantis, I am about to break your heart, but while have to fight voles very vigorously, I don't have a fence or deer repellant because I don't have deer. We currently are fighting a raccoon that thinks it lives here now, but no deer, kay...See MoreStill Unfurling in MN (pic heavy)
Comments (7)Thanks all for the comments. Jack of Diamonds is virtually identical to Tokudama Flavocircinalis - so if you have one......though I have both and happy to have them. Olive Branch, I'd seen a few times on tours before I tracked one down. Then found a bigger one with multiple divisions at a garden club sale for reasonable. And two are better than one, right. An Orange Marmalade with more color streaks into center I think was main difference, I don't know how much different it really is, I guess we'll see in a few years as it matures. Though it's very curvy or twisted as it unfurls - I don't have any pics later is season that carry the waviness. It was planted in '11 and leaves burned due to sunny location. Last year we had some 90's very early that damaged the tender leaves again. Kept watering and # of divisions seem to be good, so maybe roots have caught up with sunnier location. Comments (9)Gesila, what a treat to have you posting pictures. I am amazed at the Brother Stefan, it is so mature and perfect in every way. It makes me look at mine and wonder when it will get to growing. I mean, this is the third year after all. I'm already getting spoiled. The Lemon Lime is another great little hosta, it is going all out there, so it deserves lots of recognition. I'm hoping all my smalls such as LL and Twist of Lime and Gold Drop and Tick Tock will fill up their pots this year so I can consider placing them in the ground next spring. Raised beds are the only way to go around here. I did not lose a one of the in ground hosta, although my DH sort of took out part of Winter Snow when he was weeding around it. Your Empress Wu is only a YEAR in your garden and has so many eyes? Well, mine still has one eye, and one scape at this time. How much space did you leave for yours? Glad you have good news to report, I've dreaded reading all the cold damage from this latest round of winter storms. And here I am putting up umbrellas for the new guys to keep them from sunburning. sigh........See MoreUnfurling favourite hosta photos
Comments (112)NHL, flattery, schmattery, you don't give yourself enough credit! If only professional photographers entered, what would be the point? I say, GO FOR IT! You won a leaf exhibition! I bet you thought you wouldn't win that (am I right?) ....but you entered anyway. It's up to you, I can't make you (would that I could, lol) but if you keep producing such stunning photos, expect me NOT to stay quiet!!! :-) Isn't it enough encouragement to get kudos from Steve Shaw and LUUK??? Your biggest fan, Jo...See MoreRelated Professionals
