New Coral Bells as Companion Plants
Comments (48)Wonder wonderful thread and pictures - thank you all for posting them. I am just starting to combine Heuchera with Hostas and ferns. I have a nice collection in other beds but I love them with the hostas. The feed back on Snow Angel has been interesting. Mine was really pretty for 2 years and now is about 1/2 the size - seems like it is not a very strong cultivar. I have some started from seed with no names and have really pretty leaf veining on them. Headed over to the Perennial forum and check out their Heuchera thread ..... Comments (31)You must be eating different Manzanos or Rocoto than I grow. There are 3 kinds of Caspacin. Manzanos/Rocotos have all three. Different forms hit different receptors in your mouth. Usually they seem hotter than they are compared to habs etc. They are far from being a mild or a sweet pepper. Some are at least Habanero hot. They taste totally different than any other pepper. Very fruity, nothing like a bell pepper. Fresh off the plant they are very crunchy with a slow build up of heat. In Peru they seed them and then boil them before using them to cook with to get rid of some of the heat. Boiling does take away some of the heat but I've never had one that was anywhere near a bell in mildness. I grow Yellow,Orange, brown , peach , white and red rocotos from Peru seed stock and Manzanos from Mexican and U.S. grown commercial pods or nursery plants. C. Pubescens won't cross with most other pepper varieties-see link above. Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreDo you like Taco Bell?
Comments (53)I grew up eating tacos and tortillas, but not from fast food restaurants. Here in L.A., I like El Abajeno in Mar Vista (typical family style Mexican), and there are plenty of regional Mexican restaurants here (especially Oaxacan) that I like, and even a couple of Yucatecan restaurants. Yucatecan food is my favorite in Mexico, and Oaxacan (especially in Oaxaca) is low on the list, but I'm able to find some exceptions. MacArthur Park is a good place to find tamales, and there are several local companies that make gourmet tamales that I like, but they can get expensive. I don't know that much about Taco Bell, except that it began in California and I think has food that is similar to Tex-Mex. Growing up in Texas I went to locally owned Mexican restaurants - I don't remember chain Mexican restaurants from when I was a child, but that was forever ago. I'm almost never in a hurry to get food - there are some things (actually quite a few) that I do not rush. Lars...See Morebelle, are you okay?

The house has gone to heck. ha About 2 the kids start coming back in and from then on it is mayhem of homework, snacks and run me here run me there. Stay up late, get up early and do it all again. My HS reunion is coming up in Oct so just got plane tickets to fly home for that! Kids will stay with my parents so just hubby and I can go visit his family and go to the reunion. Should be fun I hope. Garden is coming in so that means making salsa and zucchini breads! Just not enough time in the days as you all know!
