Design Dilemma Kitchens

Help with my kitchen

Hello, I have had my kitchen for about 10 years now and they've started discoloring due to the fact that the person that made and installed my cabinets, didn't think to put a clear coat to protect from fading. So, it's time for a complete revamp. My cabinets are cherry wood with a light glaze ( not sure of the exact color so if any of you know, please, do tell haha) I have verde butterfly granite and am interested in both a backsplash (mosaic tile or glass) and we are also looking into repainting our cabinets. Problem is, we need advice as to what color would still match our granite and what backsplash would tie it together. My husband and I both want a big change but we worry that it'll clash if we go to far with it. Thinking of going with a darker tone and light backsplash? Any suggestions? Clear coat will never prevent fading. And Cherry is no exception. These are not great cherry cabinets, no matter who created them

Before you jump in to a BIG change, consider the door style, the layout of the entire kitchen.... ( microwave over range , etc ) Consider the length of stay in your home and the fact that a VERY GOOD paint job on cabinetry is an off site conversion varnish spray booth scenario $$$$.

Post the kitchen in entirety, please. All angles.

What about a lighter floor? If you can't paint the cabinets, wood floors would be a lot of wood. Light tile shows the dirt, but they also bounce around the light. My mom has a light floor (with a light patterned design to hide the dirt) and wood cabinets. She loves it and it's surprisingly light, given the darker counter tops (faux black granite) and wood cabinets. She also painted the walls a light, leaf green, which looks beautiful with the wood.

It would be very helpful if you posted something different. Your IKEA layout isn't enough. We need actual measurements of all walls. I suggest hand drawing your kitchen space without cabinets with each wall/window/door/doorway marked and labeled (including trim) as well as the distance between each wall/window/door/doorway. Label where rack l each door/doorway leads. Then, post a sketch of the entire floor so we can see how traffic flows in and around the kitchen. The Layout Help FAQ has a sample layout. It’s a very nice kitchen! When you add the vent ignore the empty wall space. It’ll look fine. You have the same thing by the windows. It stops there too. Enjoy the space, and wait until you can make this your own! It looks very nice as is now!

long term I think different wall color would be wise. if you are not occupying this yet I would paint the walls before getting in there. . If its a rental or you are getting ready to sell I suppose it doesn't matter. the gray is dark enough to make the space a lot less desirable than if you had simply white or near white walls. simple hardware. dont overthink it. pulling the strip and adding a backsplash and undercab task lighting would assist with "pulling it all together " as you say. that whole far wall backsplash zone could use a nice tile to distract from the fridge and oven stack right in the middle of everything. when you get to it..beautiful or interesting stools in the foreground there will help things along. how many stools were you thinking ?? pretty flooring / but why the dreary gray walls?
